mainstream Pop is Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, etc. I hear none of that in these songs.
I think what you mean by Pop is, slightly more catchy than the average aggressive/heavy/melodic Deftones song.
Change is catchy, Diamond Eyes is catchy, Hole in the Earth is catchy, Cherry Waves is catchy, etc.
Nothing at all wrong with catchy. Deftones their entire career have managed to stay out of the "mainstream radio" and still manage to put out great quality catchy singles that actually MEAN something and stay successful musicians.
But Poppy, no.

Yeah, that happens to me a lot too. But I try to get people to listen to other stuff. Like if they ask who is Porcupine Tree? or Opeth? or Minus the Bear? Circa Survive? whatever/etc.. I make them feel dumb for not knowing who they are lol - and I tell them to go home and check out some good music.
There's no excuse now days. With all the downloading and things like Spotify - it's so easy to discover actual good bands/music

Yeah, I'm not getting a dark vibe frm any of these songs really, so I stand by my opinion that musically it reminds me of WP, but with the lyric style and upbeat vibe/energy of DE. Which is pretty cool. The only song that doesnt feel upbeat or happy to me is Poltergeist, which, frm the preview alone, makes me feel like it's a kinda mocking/taunting thing. Actually, I guess Entombed might not sound that happy. I listened to Entombed just now and it feels like it could be the end song on an anime haha. I dont know why.

Oh, and I remember an old friend of mine who's generally into positive, peace, love reggae music, listened to Knife Prty and told me I listen to evil music. Then I listened to Sextape and laughed my ass off.
