I just broke down and listened to all the samples.  ;D ;D ;D

Disappointed in you my young padawan.

Now im alone in my trial of not listening to snippets  :'(

I haven't either.  But I've had the page up for hours.

Just giving it an "eye showdown"  ;D

Don't give in. I've completely forgot what the songs sound like now and so I want to stay fresh.

Poltergeist: Sounds like it would fit nicely on DE. Similar vibes. Nothing like Rats! x3 at all, like some people are saying.
If you haven't heard the live version, you probably aren't getting a representative impression from that clip. The verses are very much in the vein of Rats! or Elite or what have you. In fact, Rats! is probably the best comparison because the chorus abruptly goes melodic and clean-vocal.

If you have heard the whole thing, disregard, though I still don't really agree. :p

I'll just give me initial reactions to each track (not full reviews! lol)

ok cool! from what i've heard poltergeist doesn't sound like rats. the live versions sounded old school deftones, with a lot of energy and attacking but in the snippet it sounded different. a little slower and a little weird, in a cool very way though.. couldn't hear that much of stef compared to the live versions, more of vegas rumbling bass. dope in another way looking forward to it. abd it's cool how your description of RD is soo different than inkblades

Yeah, I haven't heard the live version. That explains it. Maybe when I listen to the full song I'll see the comparison.

yep, some people were saying Tempest had a southern rock feel but i don't hear it on that snippet (i had only listened to Leathers until now). i'm sure we'll be surprised by the full songs

you chose to listen to the snippets but not the full studio songs? that's odd

yeah, i used to listen to every full songs released before an album comes out but then it'd ruin the first listen of the album.  snippets are different because i tend to not overplay them so i've forgotten about them once i hear the album.

fair enough  :)

I can't wait to hear the full version of Romantic Dreams. It does sound very different from anything they've really done. At times, Chino's vocals do sound a bit "catchy" but his vocal delivery and singing just soars. Sounds beautiful.
I think these samples are taken from the middle of these songs. If you listen to Tempest sample or Leathers sample, they are extracted from/around mid song.

So it's hard to base or form an opinion obviously. But from what I just heard, the album sounds like it's going to have a wide variety of melody/heaviness/textures etc. Can't wait.. still can't believe no signs of a leak yet  :-\ I still have damn near 2 weeks to wait for the album official release.

They already said Romantic dreams sounds like 3 songs in one, that if you hear 30 seconds of it, you havenèt heard everything at all.

I dont get ppl tlking about it being like their version of a pop album. What, because there's no screaming? That's not what counts as pop music lol to me, DE is their most commercial album, and there's no way even just frm the previews that this will be more commercial-sounding, radio-friendly, etc. That said, it does appear that it'll be their least heavy album (my own definition of heavy, at least). Which I'm alright with because I'm more a fan of their softer music or their soft-then-heavy or heavy-then-soft music, but I guess that'll be a huge disappointment for ppl who want another WGTB or Elite. But to be honest, I think we coulda guessed that based on DE. It seems like it's just not the natural path they go on wen making music anymore, so that'll suck for many ppl, but their sound has always been to have a mixture of both, and they still have that. So personally, I'm happy.

Drummerboy_123

So what have you guys heard so far?

Leathers, Tempest, Gauze (snippet) and Entombed (snippet) for me  :D

Leaving it like that now till I the album is in my ears.

It sounds poppy not because of lack of screaming (If Chino just screamed all the time, they would just be like every other metal band) but because Chino's singing on some of the songs sounds very upbeat and catchy.

Haven't heard anyone say KNY is their version of a pop album..
If anything this album is going to be "dreamy" with spikes of that heavyness that we all love from the Deftones. But I agree with what you're saying.
I think they've really worked on their use of odd time signatures and are going to experiment with song structure a lot on KNY

The previews are only the choruses.

Agreed. I really don't mind their softer music either, 'cause I love Sextape and Cherry Waves. I guess there has always been a divide between their softer and harder sides. I just love that KNY may be following in the same steps as WP/DE (my two favorite Deftones albums)

Upbeat and catchy doesn't always mean poppy. I don't get a "pop" vibe at all from the snippets. I don't know what people are thinking. lol

Listened to the snippets a few times. Swerve City almost made me cry. I like just about all of it except Graphic Nature, but I also hated the snippet of Needles and Pins prior to the S/T release. Anyone also feel like Leathers just sounds different now, like it makes more sense just from hearing the 30 second clips? If I was starting to get bored of Leathers, I am not anymore!
Throw your faith in me. I'll take you some place brand new....
