I'm curious about what people are hoping for with kny.
Are you wanting a brand new sound? Are you hoping it sounds similar to a past album? If so, which album?  Also, what would it need to be missing for you to be disappointed?

I'm hoping for some what of a new sound. I mean, they'll always sound like Deftones. And when I say brand new sound, I really just mean a new "vibe" from the album.. I have this feeling that this album is going to be so amazing. I'm not worried in the least bit that it will disappoint me. I think it's going to have a vibe of S/T meets SNW mixed together with a new sound that they got going on.. It's really hard to tell though, because they are constantly evolving and changing from album to album.

I'm really hoping for a lot of solid heavy riffs from Stef. Some really bad ass off-beat drumming patterns that Abe likes to throw in there. I'm excited to hear what Frank brings to the table with KNY as well. But most of all, I'm super pumped to see what Chino has to offer on vocals. His lyrics, vocal dellivery, etc.. it's all exciting.

I'd like for something along the lines of SNW.  I just hope it doesn't have that super commercial, polished sound that DE had although I like a few songs on that album.  I like songs like Rapture that make me feel like I'm gonna go insane and songs like Cherry Waves that just have that eerie vibe to them.

Just so I have some context, does leathers, tempest or rosemary have that polished sound that you don't like?

Yeah. I never really have been one to compare one tones album to another - they all speak for themselves in my opinion. And I can't really say that for many other bands out there. I don't really have any particular expectations for this album because they've never disappointed me.

I like to look at Deftones kinda like a "soul mate" in the music world. lol It's like I was meant to listen to them back in 2000 - and ever since I've been hooked and they always satisfy my need for heaviness and melody. I think that's why they appeal to me, because I enjoy ALL kinds of music - but my favorite things are dark heavy sounds and very eerie haunting melodies.. and Deftones have all that.

Their albums sometimes are like a close friend.. Their music has been there for me in times I needed something to connect with. And I'm kind of going through some shit right now in my life, so I hope KNY helps with that as well.

I think Leathers kind of has a "polished" sound to some extent, but Tempest and Rosemary don't. Rosemary especially.. it's got a raw sound to it when Stef's guitar kicks in, and throughout the entire track it's full of emotions and mood.

About the Swerve City title, I want to say I've actually heard the phrase before and that's why I know this. But yeah swerving obviously is something you do if you're fucked up enough driving... And you can add "city" to the end of a lot of words like it's Semen City up in here (used to describe my room after KNY release / leak) or, if you just got paid you could say it's like Cash City up in this bitch!

You know, shit like that...

Word. I'm gonna be Swerve City driving with excitement when I got KNY blasting in my car!

I don't really think so.  So far I'm pretty happy with what I've heard but not really blown away.  Basically, I like songs that don't have catchy choruses or really cleaned up vocals that follow traditional patterns.  One thing I've always like about Deftones is their unique sound.  It seemed like they were trying to be too radio friendly on some of the DE songs.  I like that album but I didn't like the direction they went.  I hope this album goes a different direction and is less commercial feeling.  I keep referencing SNW because it just had this completely unique vibe about it.  It was like they just made an album they wanted to make and told everyone to fuck off.  Diamond Eyes seemed more like they were targeting a softer audience.

I have exactly the same opinion about DE. Still like it though.

maybe its a great idea to delete leathers tempest and rosemary from my pc, and wait for nov 13.. i listen to those 3 songs too many times, i need a break, besides i'm into SNW lately..

DAFTPUNK87

Yeah, I deleted them from my library as well. I was listening to them waaaay too much. I don't wanna skip them when I get the album.

Ya, you definitely want to listen to them in the context of the album.  Some will be tempted to skip over them for a while in order to quickly get at the new content, which hurts the overall listen.  I'm guilty of over listening to those songs as well.  I've learned from my mistakes.  Next time I am going to try listening to the preview songs way less.  There is something to be said about the element of surprise.

At this point I don't even care about the leak anymore, but I wouldn't mind a couple good reviews. And by good I mean well written/thought out.

yeah, according to Chino in a very recent interview - apparently Warner Bros are keeping this album on lock down. They wouldn't give the interviewer a copy to listen to prior to interviewing them, and it hasn't leaked anywhere period. And there's only that one review at Metal Sucks!.com (at least to my knowledge) - so I'm guessing Warner is keeping the seal on this album for another week.

But Germany is getting it on the 9th, so I'm sure sometime between now and next week we'll start seeing a lot more reviews, news, info about the album.
