Bloody Cape did not have that problem.
Bloody capes ending is amazing "GOD HELP ME!!!" lol

I like the screams, but the riff is just 1 note being repeated over, i like more creativity. whatever my opinion
I think the simplicity of the riffs is a characteristic of the deftones , Stephen always writes simple but good riffs i love that i don't want to hear some guy dancing all over the fret board just because he can.

Steff can shred and i remember him showing it in an interview or something but i do remember seeing him shred! But i love his simple emotional riffs More than some shredding.. like on battle axe, such a simple riff but man it gets to you! And if i do recall bloody capes last riff where chinos screaming god help me is pretty hard for some beginners :/ you gotta be fast and shit .. i learned it after awhile though
Yeah remember seeing that ,thinks its the one where he is showing the riffs from white pony.

Off topic: Battle Axe is genius.  I think it is one of the best examples in Deftones of simple being so effective.  It is a longer song and it's so simple with hardly any changes but has such subtlety that makes it powerful in a unique way.

Guitar.com Interviews Stephen Carpenter Part 1 (1/2)
but i remember seeing a live clip or something and he started playing megadeth

gwenudo

Im not sure what interview it was or else id be showing all of you, but i know ibe seen him! I think it was during white pony era but i know ive seen it! Pretty good actually
Was it like it seemed?...

It's  just an opinion, but i always thought Stephen regressed as a riff writer since ATF. Deftones got better as a whole but Stephen used to be what i liked the best about them. But i got to say Leathers has tasty riffs.

the riff on Rosemary would of been ok if it was only twice repeat instead 4 or 5 times , then go into the outro
disagree. i think it's a tad lengthy, but brootal and worth repeating a little.

I agree with RX King. I take it for what it is, and Stephen has never been an elaborate/shredding/finger-tapping guitarist. He keeps it simple, heavy, and straight to the point. It's his guitar style, and it's why we love Deftones. His guitar tone and style, and Chino's melodic crooning and melodies, along with the rest of the gang. Throw it in a blender and wahlah! Feiticeira, Korea, Hexagram, Kimdracula, only to name a few.

Maybe Diamond Eyes was a little weak on that aspect though (except for YSTB and Rocket Skates maybe). But then again the simplicity of the riffs in songs like Cmnd/Ctrl fit perfectly. But hey, I love that song, I said it many times and I'll say it again  :)

Bloody Cape is my all time favorite by the Tones!!!     LOVE LOVE LOVE

I'll jump in and agree on the Stef thing - he used to be a grand riff meister, but he's become a bit stale. I blame it on his obsession with Meshuggah. I was never a fan of the extremely down-tuned riffs in odd time signatures. lately I've enjoyed Chino's guitar playing a lot more.

I'd have to agree that Stef's riffs tend to be a little too monolithic these days.

I do not think Stephen has to be very creative anymore now that Chino is equally involved in guitar making. It was more important before when he was the only guitarist in the band. For me personally, I think Chino create better melodies and more emotive guitar playing. While Stef contributes with important heaviness to the songs. His stiff Meshuggah-chugga-chugga riffs fit perfectly with chinos guitar parts imo. its all like a symbiosis.

He should just drop the 8 string stupidity.
