Those boring low-tuned riffs at the end seem to be a trademark for Steph lately.  I'm all for some heavy riffs but dude, put some creativity in it.  Sometimes they actually take away from the song if they are just thrown in there for the sake of being heavy.

Yeah, I haven't listened to studio Rosemary but I have the same thoughts about the ending to DE (the song).  It's rather boring and sounds like it's just thrown on there to have something heavy.  Bring back the creative endings like Beware that sound like they belong in the song.

from the four songs we've heard, only the ending of this song has that problem, compared to diamond eyes (the song) where the whole song was that and only that.

Personally I think Bloody Cape had that problem too but Chino made it interesting with his screams.

bewareofrats

Bloody Cape did not have that problem.

I like the screams, but the riff is just 1 note being repeated over, i like more creativity. whatever my opinion.

edit : but i guess it fits more with the song.

I think the simplicity of the riffs is a characteristic of the deftones , Stephen always writes simple but good riffs i love that i don't want to hear some guy dancing all over the fret board just because he can.

bewareofrats

Yes, the ending to Bloody Cape fits much better with the song and the simplicity of it doesn't matter because Chino is screaming his head off over it.

the riff on Rosemary would of been ok if it was only twice repeat instead 4 or 5 times , then go into the outro

Is the heavy part different on studio than live?  Because I remember it just having one heavy part.

IMO that is the 'best version' of that type of ending (that i've heard so far inc. rosemary)... because abe really kills that.

DeftonesNZ

Don't know why people are surprised at how simple it is all their songs are basically just 3 or 4 riffs repeated,Also the ending to Bloody Cape is amazing its just the way it builds up and then its just Chino whispering with a slight guitar backing its like the songs just hanging in the air then everyone comes in and smashes it back down.

Steff can shred and i remember him showing it in an interview or something but i do remember seeing him shred! But i love his simple emotional riffs More than some shredding.. like on battle axe, such a simple riff but man it gets to you! And if i do recall bloody capes last riff where chinos screaming god help me is pretty hard for some beginners :/ you gotta be fast and shit .. i learned it after awhile though
Was it like it seemed?...
