I would be really happy with anything nearly as good as Hexagram.

Yeah anyway near as in, within a 1000 miles of it, would be pretty amazing.

Seriously 40 dollars for a cassette tape with two songs on it ? The person who buys it is gonna feel like an impatient dumbass when the album drops.

i think all of the studio songs i've heard so far reach a good, decent level, not one of them downright suck. and that's a good thing.but although all these songs have parts that really are great and interesting, none of the songs are flawless, none of the songs are great from start to finish. and that's a problem that didn't exist 1995-2005 for me. on records until snw,you could and can always put on a song and just kick back and enjoy the shit outta them without having to worry about the song taking a bad turn or annoy you in any way. everything falls in it's natural place, and this, without being predictable in any way.

rosemary has an incredible opening and build up,but when the chorus hits, it's just not amazing anymore - it feels like a bad turn. even the parts that were great in the opening slowly become a little boring, hearing them again after the first chorus, although they were great initially. gladly, although chorus is the weakest part of the song, it doesn't suck balls like the beauty scool and cherry waves choruses, so it's still an ok song in the end.

tempest intro chorus and bridge are very good. even the verse is ok, but the problem here isn't that the melody and chords are bad, for me it's the southern country kind of rock n roll vibe that ruins the verse. i think deftones and nick went too far away from the deftones trademark here. kinda sad. that said, still not a bad song, but you know.

leathers has more of a classic sound which is great, but here it is the poppy 30 sec to mars chorus that is the uninvited troublemaker.it isn't a bad chorus per se, but it isn't what i look for in deftones music.it takes you out of the song so you have to fight your back in it. these are small issues why i can't say i'm blindly stoked for the album, just interested in it. it probably will be good and decent but i'm not sure it will blow me away deftones style. hopefully the remaining 7 songs  differ from this pattern. i want some magic from start to finish in a song or 2

Crazy, I feel the exact opposite way.   I feel like they started to discover themselves during White Pony and finally have come full circle during SNW and DE.  They progressed and have pushed themselves musically, S/T (Their weakest imo) just doesn't fit for me and felt like a step backwards.   From what I have heard from KNY *Rosemary especially* they have continued to push the envelope of experimentation and I'm thirsting for more.

Different strokes for different folks

Anyone else feel like the vocals on Rosemary sound live? Like..one take?

I love the outro, reminds me of My Bloody Valentine tracks when they have outros that aren't related to the song at all.

Whats up!

Long time tones fan, first time poster.
Just wanted to chime in on the KNY hype.

I haven't been this excited for a deftones album to come out since waiting for ATF and White Pony.
I chalk it up to the strength of DE and the fact that the singles for SNW and self titled just didnt pump me up in the same way KNY tracks have so far.
So far, to me, KNY sounds like a hybrid of White Pony, DE, and something entirely new.

The feeling of waiting for a new deftones album to drop is the closest thing in my adulthood that compares to my childhood feelings of waiting for Christmas to come. Simply awesome.

Best outro goes to Beware.
Rosemary ending is just ok. Nothing special.

Really? Crickets chirping? Because I'm referring to the VERY end of the song, not the part where Stef is going CHUGGA CHUGGA

Did you just start listening to the deftones yesterday? I'm guessing not from your post count. But they've made songs with sporadic outros since as far back as I can remember. EX: when girls telephone boys, Korea, Beware etc.

hi man

Yeah, Jerry Curl! Anyone who knows anything about the Deftones knows they HATE My Bloody Valentine!

My Bloody Valentine
Loveless
(Warner Bros., 1991)
"When were doing White Pony, I played Loveless for Terry; I was like, 'I want to get the record to sound like this!' After the first song, he looks over and goes, 'Are you kidding me? That's the most coked-out fucking mix I've ever heard!' It's just a wall of guitar, and it's beautiful for that reason."

You took my statement out of context. I wasn't implying anything about MBV. Was citing how the Tones have been writing unique outros to their songs for a long time.
