Ben Weinman is the guitarist from Dillinger Escape Plan, i think that tweet was about something else

A dirge is a mournful song played at funeral. Halftime is probably a reference to songs played at sports events (Think We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions). It's a little bit of a contradiction, but that's probably what will make the song interesting. What I take away from that description is that it will be dark and sad, but also an anthem. I'm guessing something akin to Change or Minerva.
Nah halftime is in reference to the beat/groove of the song. Depending on the tempo of the song, a halftime groove is sort of a slow feel backbeat, with the accents sort of expanded over a bar.
"Needles and Pins" and "Minerva" have sort of a halftime backbeat to them.

Ultimate Guitar said it was a "dirge", which means it will probably have a sad, haunting sound.
i like the sound of that.
In that interview as well, sergio talks about the intro of poltergeist having a high pass filter. Im guessing that the opening bass line will have a thin radio like sound, and then cut our heads off when the band comes in. Just fun to speculate

Agreed, at least thats what I hope it sounds like...

Hope to hear Tempest tmrw!

I have the feeling we won't get anything.

Pessimist! I'm not counting on it. Not that I don't believe it or anything, but I"m just set on Oct 9 as the official release date so if it comes early, well then that's cool, but I'm just gonna pretend that Oct 9 is the real day that it's released...

I'm hopeful. For Dan Carter to mention it on his show is pretty promising.

I remember them playing Diamond Eyes on Zane Lowe before it came out.

I don't know about y'all, but now that I think about it, I"m kinda bummed now that by the time the album comes out, we're already going to have heard like half the album... We've already heard countless recordings of Rosemary and Poltergeist (Roller Derby) so let's just say that equals the studio versions, plus Leathers and now Tempest... And who knows, we may even have another track or at least an official snippet of another song... so 4 or 5 songs... By the time the album comes out I'm already going to be skipping over songs because I've played these preview ones out already. And from what I hear, the rest of the tracks are probably going to be slower songs like Sex Tape and Beauty School, which I skip on DE most of the time. Just not my favorite kind of tracks.. Same with Change, BQAD, Minerva... Just most of their slow singles... (The "gay" songs...)

What do y'all think about that? Don't get me wrong, I love to hear these songs as they come, and I still feel like we have the whole record to discover, but in reality we've already heard at least a third of it!

yea I get what you mean was sort of bumming me out as well but then with Roller derby and rosemary I am still excited to hear the studio versions because I am sure there will be little details that are lost in the live footage mainly Franks effects, also it won't be long before they release some of those new covers so we end up with basically 11 or 12 new tracks , I'm guessing the covers will be released as like an iTunes deluxe version again like DE was.

bewareofrats

Well you haven't heard a couple of them properly, as in studio.  So that to look forward to.

And that's why you don't play the snot out of songs when you get to hear 3 or 4 before an album comes out.  I haven't listened to Rosemary or Poltergeist in a good while and only listened to them a few times.  I've heard Leathers a couple more times but am trying to listen to it as little as possible and I'm planning on not listening to Rosemary and Poltergeist again until I have the whole album.  Also I'm thinking of not listening to Tempest.  I remember playing RS pretty hardcore when we got that so I'm trying to let off for this album.

I really hope this isn't the case because I skip them as well...they are just depressing and not very uplifting or "cool". My favorite kind of Deftones has always been more upbeat, fast, and "cool" songs like Rickets, Lhabia, Mx, ATF, Feiticeira, Damone, Knife Prty, Street Carp, Needles and Pins, Nosebleed, Lotion, RX Queen, and the countless others...

Blahh..

How about stop assuming things.  What gives you reason to believe the rest of the songs are going to be slow like Minerva, Beauty School, Sextape, etc.?  Nothing.  That's what.  Even if the rest aren't heavy, it doesn't mean they can't be more upbeat or uptempo.

And those slow songs aren't gay.  Sextape I can see but not the rest.

I think you're gay.  Change, BQAD, and Minerva are some of their best songs.  Beauty School was easily the best song off of DE which itself was a great album.

The best thing about this band is their diversity of styles.  The fact that they have a little of everything going on keeps things interesting.

Deftones fans being idiots as usual.

bewareofrats

I hope the album is going to have some energy in the last few songs unlike DE.  It really could have used some edge.

Haha, that was funny.

But I agree, Beauty School is the best song on Diamond Eyes.
