jaypayton is spot on.

O Rly?

1. SNW isn't great. It's good, but not great. Could have been a whole lot more. Plus, Chino's screams were terrible on that. Someone at glassjaw.net said his screaming sounded like Cartman on that record. Now THAT'S spot on. His DE screams > His SNW screams.
2. Chino's fat again? Trolololo.
3. jaypayton fails to mention that the Chi situation has a lot of to do with the positive mood of DE.

Lol this 3 point tally is funny. You guys crack me up.

BTW:
1: Cartman. BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! His screams are fucking raw on SNW. I think that was probably a decision they decided on. The DE shit sounds to polished for my liking considering the relative simplicity of the record.
2: Who cares.
3: The Rock tone of that album is also because they worked with a rock producer. Dude did Foo Fighters and the new AIC? Thats some rock shit right there, far cry from the grunge shit we know and love them for. Terry Date was responsible for some dark primal shit... the rage of Pantera and the dark thick tones of Soundgarden "Superunknown". With Ulrich Wild they did ATF and WP, masterpieces and benchmarks fans hold.

Yes, people's situations and what substances they're using effect the overall creativity and style of what they produce. But a person can produce a "dark" piece (art, music, or writing) while not influenced by sinister outside sources, and vice versa. Don't get me wrong, I like the dark shit Deftones "do" - and think SNW is a damn good example of it - it's very inspirational to me as an artist, but they don't have to do it all the time.

chino has struggled to scream since touring white pony, his screams on SNW did sound like mr cartman.

I totally disagree as far as the singing goes on SNW.  I think Chino has his best singing hands down on that album.

I agree partially. SNW has a fantastic blend consisting of a flawless instrumentalization and a great vocal range from soothing to raw and heavy screaming. Although I think his best vocals, when it comes to flawlessness, are on White Pony and Diamond Eyes.
SNW is my second favorite record right after White Pony, though.

Chino was fucked up on drugs in 03=GREAT ALBUM...They all hated eachother on SNW=GREAT ALBUM...Now with DE and KNY they all love eachother and are all about unity as a band=not nearly as dark or fucked up an album....pain/torment/hate/drugs will equal a great album....Loving eachother will equal a simple rock record like DE.......The fact Chino is fat again and drinking a lot again might give me some hope the new album will be somewhat fucked up...But I still expect DE part 2
Your such an idiot. They are in a different part of their lives now, they dont want to keep writing that same melancholy, dark feeling deftones 'classic' music you all think is missing. So move on, and sit in front of pirate bay for the eros leak.
Your more of an idiot for ignoring the fact that they can still make somewhat lighthearted songs that sound masterfully beautiful and genuine, but on Diamond Eyes it doesn't have that gorgeousness and tenderness songs like "Fist", or "Gift" or "Riviere" or "Be Quiet And Drive" have, without being all darkness and depression.

The thing which Deftones have truly lost is their *emotional dynamics*. Yes, maybe they are still dynamic in the artificial purely musical sense that they go from heavy to soft, but they never really transcend into different moods with each song nowadays. Each song kind of has too similar a feel, and that feel is not very powerful.

Its much more than just needing them to be dark. If they could deliver something which felt at least *sincere* (which Diamond Eyes does not in anyway), I would be almost completely subdued in my maybe naive anticipation of the return of melancholy.

I can definitely kind of see what you mean.

I'm looking forward to KNY more than I was DE. I don't think DE will ever move from my least favourite album of theirs unless they do a real abomination in the future.

your even more of an idiot. Im not ignoring that they are able to write stuff with what you all think is 'sincere' emotion, they can most definitley do that. Saying that there is no sincere emotion, or emotional dynamics in the songs off diamond eyes is dumb. Risk is one of the most beautiful songs, with a deep emotional sense to it and so is sextape. because i like soft melody when chino make high note

my biggest issue with snw was it lacked any sort of consistent flow it sounded more like a compilation cd rather than one album this was probably because of how long it took to make ,they say each of their albums are a snapshot of where  they were at the time they wrote it but because it took so long i guess the album was all over the place.

That's exactly how I feel about SNW.

Which is why I love DE so much more, the consistency and energy of DE blows SNW out the water...

Leathers is a return to form in my opinion.

They've never made the same album twice in a row. Hell, they've never made the same album twice anyways, regardless of Chino's constant "it reminds me of White Pony". DE was a simpler and more optimistic album, and I'm sure Koi No Yokan will contain influences frm that too, but c'mon, they're not gonna make another album that sounds like DE. They dont need to be on drugs or going through personal hell or fat in order to make good music. They're creative ppl, they'll do that regardless. Just that they might not want to make an album full of dark or intensely sad music like they have done. Seems to me like they're just making music that covers a range of emotions and a range of sounds.

One of the reasons everyone's favorite album is so special is because they'll never create that same sound again. Contain elements, sure, but not the same album. Because they're older now, their lives arent the same. So as much as you love this album or that album, we wont get a part 2.

nineteen

I wonder if they will change the packaging of the CD this time? Like a Digipack similar to B Sides. They usually stick to the regular jewel case but it might be cool to do something a little different this time.

No, they're not making the same stuff twice, but they have some very much a like factors between albums, DE and KNY are closest in that regard but that's mostly because of Chino's singing style didn't change that much other than it changed on every album before DE. Leathers, Roller Derby and Rosemary sounded very DEish in that regard but it not contains of the vocals only and Stef totally went more towards meshuggah playstyle this time around but with his own interpretation of it. Abe sounded different on the drums on leathers, not so much on how he played it but what gear he used, not smackey but short burst that suits the guitars. I remember some of the Eros stuff that reminded me more of S/T than anything but it was still very different because of how they finetuned their instruments and evolved their playstyle. It's barely 2 years between the albums and with all the idea flow that they mentioned it is good for them and I don't fear repetition as much as they can take more time after that to let's say 3-4 years for the next album which could be very much different from anything that we know.
