This took me a little time to get into, but I'm falling in love with Koi No Yokan. Deftones have definitely matured in their sound and for the better. You can definitely hear the shoegaze/dream pop elements of the album and they're gorgeous sounds. It still sounds like Deftones, just more evolved and polished.

The lyrical content also seems a little mushy for Chino and that's not a bad thing. It's nice to hear this side of Deftones. I would compare it to PJ Harvey's Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea -- a little out of left field, soft and somewhat vulnerable, but still beautiful to listen to.

I am beginning to hate Swerve City. The opening riff is so god damn boring.

It's a boring booklet. No pictures, just lyrics.

though everyone seems to HATE Mein with a passion....

I got that impression of Mein, too. I've never had a problem with that song. I quite enjoy it, tbh. It's much easier to sink your teeth into than some of the more challenging songs of its kind on SNW.

And I fucking hate that idiot from SOAD's voice, so I'm glad it's not very prominent.

Yeah, the song is actually pretty cool except for that guy's clown voice.  He is a joke of a singer.  the band has talent but that guy's voice kind of ruins it for me.

Flowb

If Serj wasn't in that song I would like it about 100% more than I do now, he ruined it.

Listening to the CD on a good stereo was 20x more rewarding than listening to the leak. Just buy the record fucktards.

scatterbrain

Well it leaked in FLAC,so some people will not buy cause the shit wont sound any better if they buy it.I bought it,but I'm keeping mine in the shrink cause I've allready seen the book and allready have a eac rip.
im me and thats all ill ever be

dictatesofreason

yea if that dudes voice wasnt in the song id prolly feel differently -as for KNY i almost bought the censored version but realized it just in time, lol anyways as far as the album itself goes yet again the tones have rammed cock in ass with an amazing rush of music-iyeah its different from everything thing else theyve done and some people like or dont like it what have you-HOWEVER this IS deftones man, its thier sound-unrelenting, unchanged and ever explorative of thier sound-a muse we as fans have come to love-and in a few weeks all the fuggers that are sayin shit will be defending it lol-like i said it is different but im getting used to it listen by listen and i gotta say my favoreite thing about this album is that all the songs lead into each other so its like one bigass tones song and before ya know it-the cd is over lol
so another good album from the best band on the planet-now the wait for an vinyl begins.

I like Mein as well. Serj's voice doesn't bother me too much but yeah I'm glad it's just those few lines he sings.
