Really dig kny, so it's weird for myself to see it down the list like this, but the others before it are so good

oh and i do remember this right before SNW they did family values tour or whatever. i called out chino for that, he admitted it was for money

off tpoic, but i like that chino can be honest a lot of times like this. he could easily make up an excuse of why he did the handsome boy modeling school song, the bassnectar's,back to school, tour with bands from a certain scene they don't like etc... an explaination that fanboys would swallow and use themselves when defending deftones, but he just puts it out there. of course fanboys will make up their own excuses anyway, but i'm talking about the man himself. cudos

winner here is goon squad. it's a song that is pure deftones. this is their sound. "BUT PENICSKE DEY DONT HAVE A SOUND!!!.". bullshit, this is deftones. if you don't like this track, you don't like this band and you can go suck a duck

on koi no yokan it's mostly SHOUTING SHOUTING SHOUTING which is too bad. slow down old man. be patient. seduce us with that voice. don't shout our pants off and fuck our ass.

so the best song for you has a lot of what you dislike most about the record? i mean.. lots of shouting in goon squad,no?

no, i'm taking about shouting as in chino who's constantly singing in a high pitch. i mean, it sounds like shouting to me. goon squad is screaming

gwenudo

Amazing! Man, can you take some pics to the booklet? thnks in advance

Sure, will do it with my DSLR.

First impression of the album: Great, but really it's not possible to give a first impression. DE hits you immediately, but KNY is much different. Some songs, especially Romantic Dreams, require multiple listens for sure.

Well I think it's very solid. On my second listen now. Diamond Eyes was similarly cohesive after SNW, and KNY is a further improvement in that aspect, though it seems to be at the sacrifice of a little songwriting diversity (not necessarily a problem as SNW I felt showed how their music could be too diverse). Tracklisting is not an issue for me, as I'll divulge below.

I loved Swerve City from hearing the snippet in that teaser video. Love the chorus and interesting bridge riff. Have no problem with it being the starter, it's a solid modern-Deftones sounding track and the album hits the ground running as a result.

Romantic Dreams starts weirdly, I think the whole 'Tool' sound people are describing was just a bit jarring the first time I heard it, and I wouldn't be surprised if people reacted similarly upon hearing it, but I'm getting used to it quickly and I don't think it'll take long to cement itself as 'belonging'. It's new territory for them. The chorus however is one of the album's accessible highlights.

Leathers is, I think, the most obvious progression from DE and shares sounds that've passed over from that album. It does a good job of slowing the pace from the first two songs whilst giving a remedial dose of heaviness that people would obviously expect by this point in the album.

Poltergeist, again, I'm fine with its placing, because whilst the intro seems obvious as an album starter, it also follows Leathers very well and I think anyone who has a problem with the track listing should consider that. This is basically a Rapture that they'd actually finished writing and that had some thought put into the lyrics. LOL Great use of the deep notes on the guitar.

Entombed, I honestly don't see what others are. It's an emotional highpoint, and again follows well after Poltergeist. One that people seemed to be reacting strongly to from the snippet so I don't see what might've changed? Hearing the full thing, seriously, prettier than Sextape. Feels very contemporary and would be a good shout for a single.

Graphic Nature feels, to me, very reminiscent of WP era songwriting, filtered through their new sound so I'm happy with it.

Tempest, again, a good pacer (and funnily enough I think because of that, it was probably not the best choice of song to preview early alongside Leathers as it may've given an overall slow impression to the album where, hearing all the in between tracks on the album now, pace is obviously not a problem. Anyway, back to the song itself... ). Riffing, verses, chorus all solid.

Gauze has great verse riffing and effects during the heavy rhythm. This track probably pleases me most in terms of Stef's/Frank's contributions.

Rosemary is one the 'biggest' tracks on the album, I could see it being a favourite for many. Best verse melody I'd say. The outro is great the way it transitions into Goon Squad is the best on the album.

Goon Squad is good though the heavy parts are one of the obvious highlights after the intro and synths.

What Happened To You? Great percussive intro and another emotional highlight. Great way to end a very good album.

Songs to uplift: Swerve City, Romantic Dreams, Entombed, Tempest, What Happened To You?
Songs to help your downer: Leathers, Rosemary
Songs to rock your noggin': Poltergeist, Graphic Nature, Gauze, Goon Squad

The only thing I wish the album had was that when they went dark, they really went to past extremes; a little more songwriting diversity/dynamics; a little more Digital Bath style flair from Abe; and a little more risk rather than going for melodic, big choruses like every track seems to. There's no Deathblow to WGTB type gulfs in atmosphere or style, but overall I'm very happy. The album is great at sounding huge, from the great choruses of Swerve City, Romantic Dreams, Entombed, Tempest intro/outro and Rosemary's deep guitar melody. All the melodies are good and there's nothing that I heard that I thought 'I don't like that part', from intro to outro. There's not even anything that I'm just 'ok' with, I like the entirety of the record. Hell I can't even say that about ATF or WP, and whilst I think those albums are still amongst the best because of the 'whole package' or attitude/vision, it's good to be able to enjoy the absolute whole of KNY on a musical basis. Whilst I did mention I wish there was more diversity in terms of songwriting (structuring) there are certainly aspects there in the form of bridges and intros/outros, they're not bad, quite the opposite I just wish there was a few more of them. The album however does not suffer a lack of diversity in sounds and effects and KNY is perfectly varied in that regard. Lyrics I'm obviously unsure of at the moment and production values would be better assessed when I have the album and not this stream.

I'm not exactly going to grade it but have to say I think it's even better than Diamond Eyes which I really liked, and I am buying it for sure.

The opinions of others rarely if ever mean shit to me, but I can't understand all the hate for Entombed. Such a beautiful song, unlike anything they've ever attempted before. Absolutely towers over Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event, which may be the closest they've ever come to this kind of departure.

It's as though the other four band members have finally come to terms with Chino's more electronic-based side projects, indulged in his inspiration for such music, and come up with a glorious result altogether different than anything we've heard from them previously. It truly is a beautiful, shimmering gem of a song, and a definite highlight on an album of highlights.

Also, I think Swerve City works much better as an opener than Poltergeist would have. Maybe not as interesting as opening an album with hand claps, but its place at number four in the running order is perfect. It gives the hardcore fans two consecutive helpings of their aggressive side before priming the listener for the total departure in sound.

Brilliant. Score one for the record company/band in this regard.

As far as entombed goes, I dont hate it, nor do I think it is a bad song.  I just dont find it all that interesting compared to all of the other songs on the album.
Im a fan of their mellow stuff.  I love cherry waves, WHTY, etc.  I just dont find this particular track all that captivating.  I expect that it could grow on me over time, but for now, its my least favorite track on the album.

Haha. I think I just wore out white pony. For me it was like the catalyst of better things to come. It's probably the record I listen to least after adrenaline.

epistaxis

I picked up my copy this afternoon(and ordered the vinyl) and I'm glad I'm not dissapointed(although....only 51.50 minutes?).
I agree with Penicks about the chugga, chugga on Rosemary. To me it doesn't add anything to the track.
