The problem is, chino said he's in no rush, I suspect they will tour for a year before he even gets around to recording vox.

The problem is, chino said he's in no rush, I suspect they will tour for a year before he even gets around to recording vox.

Yeah, he's not in a big rush because he's focused on Koi No Yokan & Deftones right now.
But I think he said something to the effect that he wants it out by spring of 2013.
I expect to see it released between March - May. Fingers crossed!

All of his other side-projects like Palms, Team Sleep, & Crosses have a lot of the material nearly completed.
So I think we'll have plenty of Chino tunes to listen to, to tide us over until the next Deftones album 
Gotta love the guy! He is a busy busy man.

He's already recorded the vocals. I believe they are finished. They were recorded in early September according to pics and posts.

hate to say it but the deftones have officially become like every other band thats been around to long...they ran out of ideas, are repeating themselves and are playing boring setlists live...its time break up and everyone go do their sep things and reunite in 7 years

That's ridiculous. So bands should only do what they enjoy until some fans dislike their album? That's bullshit. They make music because they enjoy it; wen they no longer enjoy it, they'll stop. Until then, I guarantee they wont stop making music because ppl think they've ran outta ideas or play boring setlists, since...well, they seem to be doing well considering the criticisms, no? It's not like they have no fans left.

Also, I love how Chino sings the verses on Gauze. Cant really explain it, but hopefully you know what I mean. Just think it fits the song very well.

What kinda closer would you guys want? I remember everyone was saying This Place Is Death was a bad closer, but then, what kind of song do you think fits?

Haha! As much as I love all of Chino's side-projects.. I seriously hope they don't slow down the next Deftones release.
I know we JUST got KNY, but if they stick with this new writing pattern/schedule.. hopefully we'll see another in the next couple years!  Heeere's ta hope'n!

I can't wait to hear where their next evolutionary step will take them musically.

Someone was complaining about Chino's cat call howl loop (right before chorus) in Goon Squad earlier.  I didn't even notice it at first but now it stands out everytime I listen to the song.  I think it's awesome and makes me laugh everytime I hear it now.

After about 5 listens of KNY here are my Thoughts...


Solid Album right now but it is new.

Favorite song is Poltergeist ..hands down. Going to make a great get pumped at the gym song.

Also like Goon squad alot.

Swerve and Romantic Dreams are very good grooving songs. Outro to Romatic dreams is great.

I overplayed  Rosemary Tempest and Leathers way to much before hearing the rest of the Album otherwise I am sure Leathers and Rosemary would be two of my favorites at the moment. Still not the biggest fan of Leathers Chorus but the verses kick royal ass.

Entombed made me shed a tear. What a weird feeling for a 40 yr old dude. I see that song getting old fast though since the lyrics are very repetitive, same with guaze.

Overall solid record so far. I see Romantic dreams Poltergeist and Rosemary as being the long term standouts from this album and then ones i will replay the most. I would like to have seen a little more sceaming and unorthodox less repetitive Choruses but that's just me. Always looking for music to jam out to at the gym. I see this as great study music though.

yeah he does reviews for hailsandhorns.com. they already have a review on KNY. But I'm doin one for his own personal site. I'll post it up when I get it done. I need to have a couple more listens of the album and let the "brand new" wear off, so I can give it a proper breakdown.

I think Chino upped his guitar skills for KNY a lot. A lot of the songs have duo Chino/Steph guitaring where chino's guitar is a lot more rythmic and precise rather than his usual loose picking, open note style of playing. Hopefully he can pull it off live. If Rosemary is any indication, he should be able to.

nah dude I dont listen to shit like green day or stone sour because they are mainstream and boring...which is what the deftones have become the last 2 albums.....scary how much this album sounds like Diamond Eyes part 2...at what point does Serg get blamed for the demise of this once great band?

find me an album by another artist that sounds like diamond eyes or koi no yokan. go ahead. i'll wait.

serg was the thing that saved this band, actually. they've said outright that after chi's accident, they had no desire to look for another bass player, but they were immediately up for bringing serg into the fold.
