Can anyone make out what is said in the bridge of Romantic Dreams in that bridge part?
Not sure if its Chino or a speech recording or some shit

i'm pretty sure Chino sampled http://youarelistening.to .  he tweeted the link back when they were recording the record.  that site is truly fucking amazing.  as is this record.  like i said before, Deftones have finally written their own 'Disintegration' (the Cure's magnum opus)/'Violator' (Depeche Mode's magnum opus).  the atmosphere is THICK, the songs are BEAUTIFUL and well-crafted, and each songs sits in its rightful place flow-wise to make up their very own 'magnum-opus'.  i always felt that 'White Pony' was so so so close to making that cut, but it never quite did... and up until yesterday, it remained my favorite Deftones ever.  this record changed shit up in ways i never could have imagined.

Surely you can't be serious. It sounds nothing like Nu metal and it's also boring as hell.

I can hear the southern thing you're talking about in Tempest musings, as in it really reminds me of Pantera's Great Southern Trendkill, and it's a very very good thing in my opinion.  I did not expect Tempest would be this heavy.  The riff has more edge than songs that I expected to be quite heavy.

I'll comment more on the album after I spend some more time with it but first impression: VERY mixed thoughts and I have some definite preferences with certain things from other albums.
Open-minded?  Here's some short videos to challenge your thinking:

I gave it another 2-3 listens today and it's getting better. Better then DE for sure. Nowhere near the classics though :(

I blame Stef's 8 string.

Eh, I can hear something in Romantic Dreams, I just can't put my finger on exactly what. Closest I could think of.

chorus riff sounds like Slipknot

Ok.. after listening to What happened to you and reading the lyrics... that song is the most beautiful they've ever written. Hands down. May be their best song ever.

this shit has sink in. hifi helps...a lot. after doing the lyrics exercise. i now get the picture.

the melodic approach aint bad, when excuted good.

i love the vocal production on this one, i've always enjoyed chino's vocal style and phrase (not the only one obviously) but i've always loved the production aspect of it, on most of the albums (at list). for some reason most of the artist dont really like the dobletracking or overdubs, but they tend to add all that richness and fullness to choruses or any determined song parts, that ned to be accentuated.

i love nick's work on here, on hifi you can hear all the vocals layers on the choruses...its beautiful.

now on the phrasing...im still dealing with the poppy "ohhs" on swerve city, too much 30stm shit going on? maybe... but i still love the song and is one of my favs...

then is the chorus of goon squad...at first i thought on 311, but then i realize that is just pure vintage helmet. of course it was weird and shocking ar first, as both band have such a different vocal phrasing, but its surprisingly refreshing and engaging, when putted on the context that deftones, have always referenced helmet as of their most notorious influences. although for not so fans of helmet, i can see why this could be so disengaging and disconcerting.

the rest is just the continuation of the straight pop melodical approach that chino has adopted, yes a departure of his more hardcore trademark phrasing, though you couldn't state its all gone. there are still plenty of trademark chino all over koi no yokan.

so in the end, my koi no yokan moment only took 4 days to become, love at first site.

I seriously agree completely. Had the exact same moment with the reading the lyrics while listening to it for the fourth or fifth time. Didnt really enjoyed it at first actually, almost skipped it. For me a total grower, perfect song.

Nice lyrics. Shitty song.

"Rosemary" is a better candidate for their best song if you wanna say that about KNY stuff.
