Upon seeing the candid photo, the band proclaimed that they wanted to use it as the album cover. It sounds nice in theory, but sometimes it can go badly. Take The Faint for example. They were once an amazing dark dance group. Then they decided they didn't need Saddle Creek or anyone else. They started their own boutique label, had no producer, did everything themselves and said it was the most "Faint" sounding record yet. That was Fasciination, easily the weakest album in their catalog. Sometimes you need outside checks and balances to pull you back from the edge of awfulness. Without it you have bands with Emperor's New Clothes syndrome.
