I get the strategy honestly, but it just must be hard for the TONS (because yes, there were probably many more than the popular opinion claims) of hardcore fans who used to follow them on club tours. Back in the day, they weren't about fitting a genre or following standards, and that's for everything.

I read recently about 1998's Chino opinion about the video for Be Quiet and Drive. He said that he wasn't about that "gay artsy shit". Can we take a moment and think about the videos that came out since then? Just take Swerve City.

They changed, they just really changed, on many points. But it's rarely something oldschool fans want to face, especially when you know how diverse they've been at least setlist wise, and how long they stayed that way (2007 still had tons of surprises setlist wise, and it was like 12 years after the "club band Adrenaline" days).

EDIT : Before someone tells me "Yeah but it's a business now you must accept it they grew up" etc, I get it. I'm just defining the matter.

I love everyone in the band so much, as that will never change. But, even Chino's performance-style has changed a lot; the way he moves, his presence, his attitude. It's still dope, and I understand that evolution is necessary or else things get boring. But, I don't know, man. I'm forcing myself to acclimate, while still craving and hoping for that old feel that they used to create...

And if I'm being 100%, fully honest, unbarred with my opinion, I have to attribute the performance-style change to him not taking care of his weight as much. I'm keen on details like this, so I know I'm not insane by saying this...but, I notice how it affects him up there on stage. This probably unconsciously makes him stray away from performing certain songs that he used to as well, and the rest of the band obviously has to follow suit...

If he's still playing 7 Words (even if the performance is shitty) you can't say this. He very obviously runs himself dry trying to sing that track and has admitted in interviews that he doesn't like performing it so to say he avoids certain songs is just dumb.

Awesome. Watching (well, listening to) it now.

Great watch but I wish they would've just used the one audio track instead of switching now and then.

Is it just me or have Deftones been getting a lot of headlining/co-headlining gigs.. and I mean some major big gigs?

Not sure if Lubbock (or most of these fests announced so far) constitute major big gigs, but yes they have been announced in marquee spots for quite a few regional fests in 2016.

Nothing they haven't done in the past.  But I'm not trying to detract - their ability to maintain speaks to their professionalism and the overall respect they enjoy after so many years.
