Yeah but what I'm getting at is that they don't plan for the few people who go to multiple shows in a short space their setlists are for the majority of people who go to the one show that want to hear all the classics. I just don't get why some people complain when they weren't even at the show it's just a list of song names to them.

man, what are you talking about?, every deftones fan would love to listen a rarely played song, i think is a show of unconcern, that they didnt worried about this boring setlist time ago until these days.

DeftonesNZ

Of course but it annoys me how people who aren't even at any of these shows are complaining it's like even if they did play a rare song they wouldn't of been there to see it anyway, also bugs me how those who are lucky enough to see them multiple times complain about the setlist when those of us in foreign places would just be happy to see them live at all especially when the songs they're all playing are good in the first place.

when I fell in love with Deftones (around 2003), I was impressed about their changes in setlists. they used to mix songs, and by that time I craved just to read show reviews in deftonesworld.com and see their setlists. but since Diamond Eyes album their setlists are boring. of course I would like to see them playing live now, because I only saw them once, but I am curious - haven't they got tired of playing all the same songs? atleast they could change songs order.. I wonder if they don't do that because it has something to do with their equipement (different Steph's guitars, etc).
hello memory lover, you are mine

DeftonesNZ

Yeah I'm guessing it has some part to do with equipment with stuff like the light show but also I know Stephen doesn't have all his presets dialled in for all the songs but this next touring break it's sorting his rig out and dialling in all his presets for every song they've done into the axe fx 2, plus we can't forget the fact Sergio probably doesn't know alot of the songs given that he hasn't had time between learning the stuff he has and making the new stuff plus his Quicksand stuff.

Don't take the privilege you have of being able to see them live for granted just enjoy it and feel lucky you don't have to go to another country to see them.

It is their job, they make their money playing shows. People like some spontaneity. Not them being robots going through the motions..

It just has to do with stability, for them.. They are tighter when they play a selection of songs instead of songs they haven't played in ages. Makes sense as musician. Nothing with Vega not knowing the songs, they have played Boys Republic with him, Combat..
And somewhere, There's someone who cares. With a heart of gold, To have and to hold.

From what I know, the Deftones have been to NZ before, and aren't they touring Australia this month, which is maybe not right around the corner like the neighboring village, but within reach?
I think its too easy to complain about a band that won't come to your city. There is always a way if you really wanna see them, thats what I think.

Now obviously I don't know anything about you, if you go to school, university or if you work full time, but lets say you book cheap flights beforehand to I don't know Sidney or Adelaide or something, sleep in a hostel, take some extra cash with you for beers, food and public transportation -  doesn't sound impossible to me.

Two weeks ago I have seen Meshuggah in both Bratislava and Budapest.
The thing beforehand - Meshuggah confirmed shows only in Northern and Eastern Europe, but I live in Germany, pretty much Central Europe. So I could have said, ohh thats too bad for me, have fun everyone who is privileged to go.

Or instead I could go on a little Eastern Europe trip and see the band that I want to see. I went with the second option.

Everyone can play the I am broke card, but not everyone travels somewhere for his / her favorite band(s) and just makes it happen.

DeftonesNZ

They've been here twice I believe but I'm a Uni student lol and the closest would be Sydney which is like a 4-5 hr plane ride I have family I could stay with there but the main reason it would be super expensive is because of the exchange rate (we lose like 30cents on the dollar) and stuff like food and beer cost alot in Aus, plus cost of renewing passport and stuff. I would love to do it and would if I had the money that's why it kills me when someone says they would only go if they were given a ticket, if the cost of the ticket was the only thing stopping I would be there.

Are you guys serious? I would just love to see them live full stop and no matter what they played I would still have an amazing time because they're my favourite band. Don't take the privilege you have of being able to see them live for granted just enjoy it and feel lucky you don't have to go to another country to see them.

The setlist would be great for people who don't see them multiple times a tour. People think it's boring because this is the age of technology, all information is on the net. If people post the setlists for each show, it definitely seems boring because you know what you're getting. If we had no idea what songs they'd play, it'd be new when we see them. Anyway, I've seen them three times, the setlists were a bit different but all the 'favourites,' the big hits, were there, but I loved it. In fact, it got better each time, because it isn't the setlist that makes it so good, it's the band itself, the energy, the atmosphere, the quality of the music. That's what I think, anyway. Obviously for people who've seen them a few times each tour, they'd get bored, but I wouldn't, personally.

DeftonesNZ

That's exactly what I meant it's just hard to explain, just because you see it online it doesn't mean you've experienced it so it shouldn't matter if it's the same setlist live.

If the band plays a show in your country, you will be there, I get that.
But since they hardly ever tour New Zealand, I would ask myself what I can do to see the band at least once in my life and make this one of my top priorities.

And please be assured that I also don't have a goat in my garden that shits money ;)

Payment at my job is lousy, and then there are lots of costs.. monthly rent, electricity, groceries, gym membership, the occasional weed and a crate of beer, , also not to forget my girlfriend expects me to go on holidays with her this Summer. And by that I don't mean camping in the woods but going to Spain or Greece and staying at a hotel. Then my old friends expect me to do something with them at least once a year, like the Eastern Europe trip I was talking about et cetera et cetera

I just assume you don't want to be that guy who tells people how he never got a chance to see his favorite band because they wouldn't visit his country.. its all about what your priorities are.

DeftonesNZ

Yeah get what your saying, I will see them one way or another, just at the moment I'm in the middle of getting my degree and instead of having a gap year after I finished high-school I just decided to get my degree out of the way and I'm saving the whole travel see the world thing after I finish and seeing them live is near the top of that list, but in the mean time it'd be awesome to see them a bit closer to home.

On the flipside, we have the fans that are spoiled like us and can see them at San Diego, LA, Ventura, SF during the same tour. We pay money to see our favorite bands, hoping to see something new, hear something new/old...that's where we are coming from. Not saying they haven't done some crazy random set before, but being able to see that they haven't changed the set is kind of disappointing. They have quite a few songs and for them to play classics, is dumb. Whoever has been a fan has already heard these classics.

They played 2 shows at the HOB back in 2004 and I skipped school so we could wait in line all day. It's been my tradition ever since. Anyways, if I had only gone to the 3rd show in Anaheim, I would've seen them play FOD. Although, I heard Abe playing some of the claps and drum beats :-/
..Yeah don't go there,

I let you get to me

yeah yeah.

shoop

anyone who likes FOD (myself included) are so lucky that someone recorded it.. it's unfortunate there was no video but still, we're very lucky to be able to hear it at all. (aside from the demo)

play

I swear all i want to hear is my favourite song of all time 'needles and pins' back in the set.

Praying they will play it in Sydney. Doubt it though :(
anyone else here going to the australian shows??

you're all in denial. They're not the deftones you love anymore. They haven't been for awhile. They've reinvented themselves, and while this is great for all the new fans they've acquired, it is shitty for those of us who have been listening to them for a long time. Just do what my avatar says and go watch some live shows on YT from the early 2000's. Korea is playing as I type this because I am OG as fuck; take notes.

DeftonesNZ

Meh true for some people , but I know some like me appreciate all aspects of their sound from the raw to the polished but there will always be the people like you who's time is obviously so worthless they hang around on a forum about a band who according to them have done anything good in years just to tell the rest of us how wrong we are. I have no problem with you not liking the new stuff but to tell people they're wrong for liking it is ridiculous especially considering how subjective music is.

LMAO, you sound upset. Why are you so mad? You sound like someone 'whose' time is obviously so worthless they hang around a forum and cry whenever someone isn't a grade A fucking groupie like you. I'd buy you an escort if you were in the states cuz a piece of ass would probably put a smile on your face tough guy.

Also, look at your post count; look at mine. Who's the fucking loser here that lives on Sharinglungs? haha, fucking hypocrites gonna throw rocks.

pony_01
