The Deftones demo lyrics

The Deftones demos (Linus, Guest etc) don't have confirmed lyrics, and this is something we all know. The fans have deciphered the lyrics the best they can. So I have an idea on how to get them. Jonah Matranga of Far does this thing called "Unique Recordings", where he covers songs for his fans for a price. Jonah is an easily contactable guy, and he obviously in contact with Chino in some way (has his phone number email or whatever). So I'm considering getting Jonah to cover those old demos (one song at a time of course, over the space of a few years) and ask him to confirm the lyrics with Chino to keep it authentic. Its an expensive way to get the lyrics, but could be fun. And helpful (i.e. for those who want to cover the demos and want the lyrics to be right). The first song I'd get would be Guest (personal favourite).

Jonah has a great voice but no way should he cover Guest. Its one of my personal favorites and uniquely highlights Chino's early mellow style singing. I wish deftones remake the song though, that is on my wish list before they get too old, disband , stop playing etc..

What would be great is if Jonah and Chino get together again and collaborate like they did on Savory.

Guest/Gift is the only Deftones song that cheers me up haha. I wouldn't be too content with a remake, a live performance would be just the right thing!

But yeah, I can't really imagine Jonah covering it. But hey, my imagination has limits, maybe he could make something great out of this. Good idea!

I was thinking the same about Melanie, i mean cover that song and try to get a "studio version" (with out vocals of course), just for personal enjoyment ... but making an acceptable guitar/bass tablature by listening to the few live recordings is really, really difficult... if not impossible.

I'm curious to know how Jonah would interpret it, for sure... but that wasn't the soul reason for this experiment. It was merely to get Jonah to contact Chino and get the lyrics. Not sure Chino would be down with that, but who knows. So regardless of how the song turned out, we'd have the right lyrics to the song. And, maybe, just maybe, Jonah asking Chino for the lyrics might spark an interest in the Deftones re-creating it.

Yeah I was amazed by the final version. Lyrically, sonically the way it was structured (credit to Shaun Lopez too btw) its definitely a strong climax towards the end of the album
