Grace Cathedral Park - In The Evenings of Regret [2004]

1. Play Delicate, Desire Quiet
2. It's All Well Above Wonder Anyway
3. Is It the Hurt You're Drowning In
4. Settling for the Broken in the Things Never Forgotten
5. Hey Pretty, Could You Stay Awhile
6. Latter Day Love Affairs and Everything Else You Would Hope to Forget

Grace Cathedral Park formed in the winter of 2002 as a collaboration among nine people wanting to create something beautiful and inimitable. Their debut album, "In the Evenings of Regret," is, in a word, stunning. They do not dwell or dominate, but tiptoe gingerly, then sweep grandly, swallowing up listeners. The band has been compared to Mogwai, Low, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Explosions in the Sky. Like those bands, they will catch you off guard with epic-length songs that simmer just below the surface before swelling into arresting climaxes. "In the Evenings of Regret" consists of only six tracks, but clocks in at an impressive 77 minutes of music -- a tremendous force underlying the seemingly fragile casing.

Glad you guys like the album. And now for something a little different...

Young Legionnaire - Crisis Works [2011]

When you stick members of two of the UK's best and most progressive acts of recent times - Yourcodenameis:milo and Bloc Party - in a band it's no surprise to hear the resulting record is a melting pot of compelling ideas executed with stunning precision. 'Crisis Works' is at base a heavy rock record, the likes of 'Twin Victory' an absolute whirlwind of crushing riffs. However, there are plenty of dynamics, tender moments and a definite through line of melody here too. The best example of this being 'A Hole In The World', a quite staggeringly beautiful track and contender for best song of the year.

For fans of: Yourcodenameis:milo, Bloc Party, At The Drive-In.

The Saddest Landscape - You Will Not Survive [2010]

1 Declaring War on Nostalgia
2 Torn, Broken, Beautiful
3 Eternity is Lost on the Dying
4 Imperfect but Ours
5 So Lightly Thrown
6 The Shadows I Call Home
7 From All of Those

First record in seven years for the band too easily banded into the emo / screamo bracket, The Saddest Landscape offer so much more than the genre is easily stigmatised for. Andy Maddox's screams are ones verging on a tearful breakdown throughout 'You Will Not Survive', slight elements of progression even creep in showing the band's creative aspirations. Where the real beauty of the band lies, however, is in the lyrics, full of retrospect and hope: "We live our lives like the guitar breaks in, beautiful and melodic and ready to explode, and God damn, we looked good". A wonderfully passionate record.

Jeudah - While We Sleep (2011)

Jeudah is an indie rock band from Norrköping, Sweden. Following the breakup of Eskju Divine in 2008, Kristian Karlsson formed Jeudah with Khoma vocalist Jan Jämte.

800 kilometers apart. The two members of Jeudah, vocalist Jan Jämte (also in Khoma) and instrumentalist Kristian Karlsson (also in pg.lost), hasn't had that many chances to meet in person. Instead the sound of Jeudah has been forged through a long-distance relationship built around countless of hours of talking and experimenting alone in front of microphones and amplifiers. The result is a sound that encompasses vulnerability, heaviness and epic soundscapes - all in a straightforward, melodic manner.

Muse and maybe even a little John Murphy's 28 Weeks Later soundtrack. This is great! "Edge of the World" is brilliant.

Seen them at Friction Fest this year. Their singer is a crazy dude, I thought he was gonna hurt himself on stage. Some songs sounded similar, but nevertheless an excellent live band.

Gonna listen to Jeudah later..
