Accidently stumpled upon the string quartet tribute while on youtube. I was just curious to know how many of you have listened to it and also if you liked it? I for one thought is was actually pretty good considering the fact that I can't stand any form of classical music.

Vesanic

Just for the recall, there are two of them.

I try to be, but it's not always easy. I use to be a huge hip hop fan and know I can't stand the shit. I don't know what happened I just woke up one day and was like this shit sucks.

Vesanic

Ah come on man, listen to everything.

I have pretty varied taste. I'm just sick of listening to materialistic cocky assholes saying a whole lot of nothing.

Vesanic

That's a bad vision of hip-hop, mate.

Well thats how most of hip-hop is these days. I would just rather listen to something with more substance. It's not that there weren't or aren't some great hip-hop artists out there. It's just after 10 years of listening to nothing but hip-hop...i'd like to move on with my life.

Well, this is highly debatable. Even though I can enjoy many various types of music, I cannot thoroughly enjoy hip-hop/RnB and other forms of beat music like I enjoy rock / heavier music, intelligent pop music or even some forms of intelligent dance music. Therefore statement "listen to everything" is not that right. I mean, I am mostly envious towards people that are actually able to listen and appreciate anything, but some modern music forms made me a snob and I just cannot listen to some music that I listened before.

I guess when you see Salvador Dali's paintings, coming back to appreciating high-school pencil drawings is impossible if you catch my drift.

I do, but it's not like hip-hop is the high-school pencil drawing of music, dude. Yes, there are tons of guys in rap and hip-hop who are dicks and are only talking about themselves in a stupid way, but like in almost every type of music, there is something amazing, here and there. In my opinion, at least.

dude there is some sick rap out there. wu tang clan for example. their first two albums are lyrical genius. rap isn't my first pick but i'll listen to pretty much any type of music and i can always find something in a genre that i really enjoy.

Inkblades

Hip-hop is just like any other music genre. There is good stuff to be found - you just have to know where to look. If you're checking out songs on commercial radio stations, you're bound to be disappointed most of the time. Start here:

El-P - How To Serve Man The Meanest Things I'd Never Say

sing blue silver

#12
this has deteriorated into the "convince people good hip hop exists thread"

i'm all for it.
CASE AND POINT!
Weerd Science - Conspiracy Theories (White Room Edit)

the first verse in this song is just mind bending. almost every verse in this song is mind bending. this is one of my all time top hip hop songs.
Wu tang Clan - Triumph

E-Money

I love hip hop and I'll be the first to admit that a lot of it is garbage.

Check out Jay Electronica.   He's Phenomenal, and hopefully his first full length will be coming out this year.

Jay Electronica - Exhibit C (Prod. By Just Blaze)

and props for triumph sing blue silver.  the clan always killed it.

I agree with vesanic to some extent. I think he means that one should not exclude something just because it belongs to some genre or category someone invented. if it's good it's good, no matter what anyone has label it.don't think he means that he or anyone else should like every song ever written

Vesanic

Yup, that's my point. I mean I'd never tell you to listen to Rebecca Black, of course.

Frequency_Chemist

Thanks for the links guys. I didn't mean to spark a giant debate about musical taste. I listen to all forms of rock, r&b, funk, blues, etc. I can appreciate good lyrical hip-hop like big daddy kane, method man, lupe fiasco (before shitty ass lasers), rakim, and people of that caliber. I've just listened to so much of it that honestly I don't want to listen to it amymore. Maybe I will revisit it later, but for now i'm just not interested.
