That guy's obviously a douche and, more importantly, a moron of epic fucking proportions. How does he know what the Deftones' money situation is? Is he the personal accountant for them? We all know Gina and Chi's family run the site, not Deftones. Oh well, the less attention paid to people like him, the better.

iceache

If they're all so rich, wouldn't that also make Chi rich? Wouldn't that mean he wouldn't need donations to help with his treatment? Yeah, that  guy's a troll.

RoyalDeftonicBoy

What disrespectful motherfucker. I wish I could meet him and break his fucking face listening to nosebleed.Motherfucker

Sorry that Im pissed off

It's a pity that he must express himself like "once important now boring band"- right there is when he will get everyone against him,no matter what he writes. Pretty stupid of him. Sensitive questions like "have the deftones done enough for chi ,when they should have some big dollars in an account somewhere", Can they release Eros and donate large part of it to chi? can they release the unreleased diamond eyes song in a more expensive package w´here most if it goes to chi instead of dropping remixes, and so on...... questions like that can be discussed. they are there in the artical in a way but none of them discussions gets started with that attitude from the article writer. just look at all the answers here. he will be dismissed as an idiot and that was the end of that. So yes, he probably should get his ass kicked, but not because he critized the band, but because in what way he did it

kittyy

That was just completely disrespectful. And somewhat contradictory. First, he says the remix will make "what, $10?" then goes on to call them "rich as hell". Erm, is it just me or do rich people normally make their income off their SUCCESS? Not 10 fuckin' bucks. Haaaa. I might talk to him on twitter, iffff I feel like reactivating my account solely to troll him, hahah.

That shit is pathetic.  The Remix was great!  Cant wait to hear some more!

i really dig the remix. Chi's loved ones are doing a lot to pool together his friends to do their part in using their music as a purposeful aid in helping bring him back.

I'm not one to be critical of things in such sensitive situations. But I was really let down that the benefit for Chi wasn't released as come kind of fantastic live DVD with funds going to support Chi. It had all the star power of great musicians there to make it penetrate that unique marketplace. But then again, did undertaking it in conjuncture with a label and the executive production of live DVDs just not jive with the spirit of the event?

Thanks brother, to be honest I care less what anyone says about the remix (bad press) thats no problem to me, the fact that the writer insulted Chi/Sol Invicto and Deftones was uncalled for and extremely unprofessional, I got intouch and it got delt with!

Believe it or not I emailed Andrew Bennett, their long time EPK and Music Video director. This was a few months after the accident. I guess I was just really into this idea I had where I envisioned a DVD in stores that would have a sticker on it saying "percentage of funds to go the oneloveforchi foundation". It would be the live DVD everyone's always dreamed about. Straight up best band on earth kinda shit. It would be lightning in a bottle to put that together on film and make an indelible stamp of their energy, with a spirited dedication to Chi Cheng as it's heart. Andrew was totally into the idea and said they would just need funding to produce it. I'm a broadcast editor myself and believe it or not, putting together a live DVD that's worth doing can cost a lot more money than just the back pockets of a few rock stars. The insurance for everything alone would be astronomical. Andrew got the impression that I was friends with the band so he encouraged me to tell Chino pretty much everything I told him. But I replied saying I was just a fan, so I guess my lack of influence or connection to the band couldn't really pan out.

There's also this odd feeling I got that involving someone's tragedy with the marketing of a band could be seen as insensitive. Anton Corbin who made the video for Joy Divisions Atmosphere was highly criticized for romanticizing Ian Curtis's suicide and people saw him as kind of a scum bag. But then again a lot of people really connected with Ian Curtis and felt that post-humous releases keeping his music alive has been great. So then again, Anton Corbin has a lot of people who truly appreciate his music video and his documentary.

In regards to the responsibilities of the Deftones as a band. They are an amazing group of people who have one profession: Music.
No one should expect them to be like Radiohead or NIN and be genius' of multi-platform artistry and internet marketing or charity.
And besides there's already been amazing strides towards supporting oneloveforchi.com

- The Benefit for Chi Concert
- The Auction
- The fact that in every interview when Chi is brought up Chino will tell people to visit oneloveforchi.com

These strides all happen one step at a time. If Steph wanted to do a remix and then thought 'You know what. Might as well make this something that can help out Chi's family' then that's fucking phenomenal.

To criticize Deftones as if they are insanely rich and are too cynical to spare the fruits of some great wealth is kinda ignorant. U2 made over $108 million this year and have sold over 150 million records. I don't know how much money Deftones make annually but they've sold about 7 million records. And I'm not an accountant or anything, but I doubt that after dividing the band's profit 5 ways they see personal bank statements in the millions. If anything they get cheques in the tens of thousands or the occasional one or two hundred thousand. And since they aren't employees like regular people who pay their bills every month or whatever, they probably end up paying huge lumps of money towards outstanding bills as soon as the money clears. They have families to support and a whole science of dynamic music production to fund.

Nevertheless they have influenced thousands of dollars in support of Chi through mentioning the website anytime an interviewer asks about Chi, they put together an amazing benefit show, and took part in an amazing internet auction for their brother. What more can you ask for? These guys care. The fact that they are holding onto Eros out of respect for Chi is nothing but love. They have the decency to move forward without exploiting the labors of Chi's studio work on Eros. Matter of fact is they even considered changing the name of the band cause it just didn't seem the same without Chi.

In conclusion, Preston Bernstein needs an ass kicking and everyone should consider donating a few bucks for Chi's family on Christmas. If you're a Jew then I'm sure you got some extra money out of all 8 of those awesome nights. C'mon everyone, one love!
