i'm really proud of the 2010 they're having

Starz

Seeing them live this year was a little too clinical for me, too rehearsed. I liked it when they would decide thieir setlist like an hour before they went on stage. They should do that now.

The 2003 tour Chino was never sober and was unhealthy which results in a poor performance from him. But he seemed to be more into the music when he was in that state, more emotionally connecting to the songs when he would sing them. Today it's all about "I've sang this song a million times lets all have a good time" which is cool too I guess. I would have done anything to have seen them in 2003 as that's when they played a lot of S/T stuff. I could have seen them at Wembley with A Perfect Circle but had to cancel at the last minute. They played Battle-Axe at that show too :(

I beg to differ. Yeah, Chino was pretty much always drunk/high as fuck, but the performances weren't always bad. You just talked about Wembley 2003, well it's probably my favorite deftones show. His screamings were absolutely monsterous, like I said a couple of times. He was totally into his music, even 7 Words and stuff. Yeah, he was having a hard time with high notes (Digital Bath), but all the rest was really, really good. Hexagram from Wembley 2003 is, to me, the best performance of Hexagram ever.

On the other hand, there's a couple of terrible, terrible performances from the same tour.

I think it was just depending on the day, really.

Wembley has to be the biggest venue they've ever headlined in the UK surely

IMO, I think he probably got some coaching after his vocal cord injury and just changed his technique to avoid further injury.  That's all speculation, and you could argue that he's not exactly nursing his vocal cords, but I think that could be one explanation for the shift in technique.

I also don't really think one style is necessarily better than the other or that we should be lamenting the old days.  He still pwns just as hard \m/

Having never been to a live show before this one, I was wondering if this was a good standard, because it felt fucking incredible, maybe it was just b ecasue it was first show.

it's great they're pickin up new fans along the way, to make up for people who quit listening to them. newer fans like you are real important. DE has probably earned them quite a few new diehards

can't see what's wrong with liking a particular era, year or album a little extra. can't even see what's wrong about being manic about a certain year. it's just his taste
