Anyone have any insight on why they've abandoned all SNW songs in their recent shows?

#1
its because during the making of SNW, the band almost broke up and went through a rough time and according to Chino moreno, after the songs were recorded and completely mixed he didnt listen to them and didnt even want to because it would depress him. If u pay attention to the lyrics closely ull understand, songs like Rapture, Hole in the Earth, Combat, Xerces, Kim dracula, Cherry waves and so on...i still think, despite how dark it is, that this album shows how much work and emotion deftones put into this record, in terms of song structures and sounds. It sounds a lot more complete and atmospheric thanks to Frank's effects and of course, Chino's mellow side.
The ideal songs of SNW that should be played: Kim dracula, Rapture, Mein

In a nutshell, the songs are too depressing to play and listen to and Chino doesn't want anything to do with that album. He was on drugs, goin thru a divorce and Bob Ezrin was making his life a living hell. The Malibu place was depressing him, where they relocated after "The Spot" which is their studio in Sacremento.

^ ^ while that shit is true has anyone here asked any of them why? could be a different reason.

but,

if you look at this tour now, obviously there's more marketing going on here.. they're attracting new fans because DE was very succesful for them and so now at these shows they have to play a lot of singles and shit the general public should enjoy if they haven't seen them before... so sure SNW flopped so they're not going to spend 5 minutes of an SNW song that they should one off the new album so these new fans can walk away and say "yeah they're awesome, i'm gonna go buy whatever album that one song's off" and not "yeah they're awesome except for that one song, so eh i don't dig em"

so yeah that and the fact that it was a depressing album for them.

but needs to be confirmed by someone, i was just thinking that myself the other night...

u r correct about the marketing, i didnt remember that they were promoting Diamond Eyes and well they'd play their hits as well as "Core" deftones songs and unfortunately SNW had no hits and well the depressing aspect explains y they dont play the core tracks.

Cherry Waves and Xerces are very loved by fans . They're quite catchy too, so the only reason why they don't play must be the memories they bring back... :-\

Just as a reminder:

They played one song from SNW during this tour, at only one gig. It was Hole in The Earth. I don't even think it was on the setlist, because before Chino starts playing the intro, you can hear the intro of Passenger... Sounds like they sometimes change their mind at the last minute.

how strange that they picked hole in the earth(because of the lyrics), even though it was a single.

if they open with rats! before chino's throat gets too worn out during the show then i'd like to hear that played now.. would sound better than the studio version i think honestly, now that chino seems to be able to scream again..

i dont know if chino was doing drugs during snw. I dont know if he ever did drugs like extacy or heroin im pretty sure he smokes chron tho...but i digress. I think they stay away from snw cuz not alot of ppl are into this dark and shady album{i fukin love it}... also my brother said they would never play combat live or couldnt because the intro is done by computers u know the wierd alien sounding voices. I said man combat would be interesting to hear live tho.

I heard that it was because Chino couldn't do his vocals and play his guitar part at the same time without fucking it up.

2HitsThe6

I asked Stef why they didnt play combat when I met him in 2007 and he said it was because Chino hadnt learnt his guitar parts yet which shows that despite writing the parts he wasnt overly interested at that time, Stef was actually quite scathing about Chino that whole conversation which showed how things were in the band during that period.
