Do you think the Deftones produce mature music, or do you think there music is appreciated by the younger generation as well ie 15-19 year olds.

Ive heard alot of people talk about how they are a mature band for mature listeners who can relate to their music, just interested in this.

Being bands like Sum 41, Greenday, Offspring are all good bands but attract the more younger generation.

is their music immature?  the link i posted in the new far cd thread quoted jona as saying something like when youre pushing 40 can you seriously be playing loud music.....  i think hes right to a point   most 'rock' bands using the term loosely start out in their 20's inspired by bands and music they listen to as tweens and teens...     are peoples parents aunts and uncles buying or listening to diamond eyes?  ;D no probably not  does that make it less mature? its all taste

i think that new korn single is shit because we have a guy bitching and crying still at whatever age he is like hes an angst ridden teen or early 20 something yr old... dumb    whether its manufactured or real...

again rock music using the term loosely really is a young persons music imo   as time goes on 'rock music has gotten 'heavier' and more agressive    the stones music isn't the same as say slayer    it think the stones can somewhat pull off old songs.... for slayer its kind of weird to think of these guys at their age playing music they wrote in their 20's   robert plant said he didn't want to play live with the remaining peeps of zeppelin because he felt he could no longer capture the youthful essence of the music from when they originally made it

i would feel strange being in my 30's and 40's...trying to make music targeted to kids and 20somethings and still trying to be 'cool'.....

I think they're more mature. I suppose what you mean by the bands with the younger generation is that they're more carefree or straight-forward...and then they also have this raw kinda element to it. Angst and whatnot. Deftones can do that too, but I think their music has become more mature over time. A lotta fans of them were young wen they first listened to Adrenaline, so they've grown with the band, so I guess that's another factor.

I would say yes it is mature music.
What makes it mature for me is that Deftones are making music for all the RIGHT reasons.
Because of this it's music that really stands the test of time.
Put on White Pony or ATF and they still sound fresh, interesting and groundbreaking.
Deftones are not writing bubblegum radio pop simply to get into the chart, they are making music they enjoy playing and enjoy listening to themselves.
There is definitely a maturity in Chino's lyrics too. They are deep and have meaning and they really do paint a picture just like he says. For me a lot of their songs have a really special, personal meaning and give me chills listening to them (this happened while listening to Be Quite and Drive the other day even though I've owned ATF for years)
His lyrics have a content that both young and old can relate too - it's certainly never been the case with Chino that he sings about being abused as a child for e.g. (a lot of people have complained about Jon Davis of Korn doing this - even though I love Korn).
Compare them to Britney Spears or Black Eyed Peas lyrics and you decide which is more mature.
I really hope that Deftones never lose that aggressive edge - you don't stop feeling emotion just cos you hit 40 and Chino has never been one to winge anyway.
Deftones to me is all about the feeling and about music that means something  and stands the test of time - if that's what makes mature music then my answer is a resounding yes!

Wow.  I gotta say Wax, that's some cold shit.  I'm pushing 40 and I really am not into "older" artists.  I listen to what's current because music is always changing and evolving regardless of age.  Mind you, there are a lot of bands I don't know or listen to, not because I'm too mature or they are too immature.  I don't listen to them because they suck.  The bands I listen to as a kid are not putting out anything interesting anymore either, so they aren't getting my money.

What I will say about this album though, is that while Deftones have matured musically and otherwise, they haven't done so to the point of losing their edge.  Just because they're older doesn't mean that they are supposed to be singing about their morgage and shit.  There's a fine line with this sort of maturity, and Deftones are skateboarding on it.  Korn is so far behind them, they can't even see them.  I hope it stays that way.

I think they were making an evolution with each album and that makes them unique. While some kids listen to Korn, thinking they still the best, others (like us) like to listen a band trascending and not being stuck in the same thing over and over. When White Pony arrived I didnt like at first 'cause I tought they lost their edge, but subsequently that album conquered me completely with the special edition including The Boy's Republic. That album alone is like for NIN's The Fragile and stood up against everything that was around that time.
Deftones will keep being this way and that is perfectly fine because that is why we all love them so much :D Deftones 4 life :D
