Bergerac

I like it so much I sometimes start the album from there, just to listen to the CMND/CTRL-YSTB-Beauty School 123.

Best part for me is Frank's building atmosphere towards the end of the song with the droning synth.

Seriously, guys? Is name calling really necessary? How old are we? I made an intelligent dissection of an anomaly on the album that was bugging me as I'm incredibly critical of Deftones because they've been one of my favorite bands for a long time and you respond as if I just shit all over it or all over you. I didn't. I actually love this album more and more every listen but I was expecting a much more aggressive song out of "CMND/CTRL" than it actually is and I'm voicing my opinion on it. I didn't set out to offend anyone. And yeah, I'm pretty critical of the aforementioned lyrics that I found distasteful but I can accept them. They just feel out of place for me because I can really relate to the rest of the song's lyrics.

So back to the original topic, I'm finding that the song comes off better on my car stereo than it did on my home stereo because the bass is a bit more powerful in the car and I'm basing my issue with the overall tone/mix of the song on my first listen which was in my room on a really great system but at a significantly low volume that didn't let the bass announce itself as well as it has in other listens since then.

So yeah, I'm coming to terms with most of my issues with this track. Thanks to everyone who responded politely and added their voice to this discussion.

Yeah what he said................Let's play nice kids!
One last Thing...You Should Beware the Content!!

Thank God that you........ love..... at all.

976-EVIL

That being said it is definitely the most Brutal track on the album and I like Brutal!

However it is no "When Girls Telephone Boys" IMO

I love this song, I dont really have any criticisms about it. Deftones are like my favorite band, but I like their diversity, so it means I love most of their songs (even if it takes a while). Anyways, about the "bitch you're barbaric, King Kong, get some" lyrics...it seems outta place, but I guess it's part of the vibe. It sounds like it's meant to be in this kinda sarcastic or mocking way, so that fits in I suppose...it still made me laugh wen I actually read it though, I wasnt expecting that.

i dont know about u guys, but i think it would be pretty neat if there was a guy dancing in a gorilla costume on stage while deftones performed the song live

I agree with the OP, even though I like this song it seems really plain to me and not very interesting. I like all of the songs on DE but this one id definetly my least favorite. Just seems too simple for me, probably what they were going for. I think its kind of simular to royal, but royal blows it out of the water. Cant really put my finger on it, but I could live without this song being on the album.

There Will Be Blood

I like the song don't get me wrong but its not my favorite

It seriously makes the Deftones sound like they're trying to be heavy and failing, which is something at which they could never fail.

I have exactly the same feeling. It's the only song of the album I skip...

I like it. Its what they do best, straight riffs in your face, not forgeting the melodic stuff that Chino does so well. Too bad he cant reach the high notes live (So far)!

I'm the opposite. :D I love his Romance imagery. Its incredibly powerful to me. This is really the first time, out something like 70 songs that I've really questioned his lyrical integrity. I've always loved everything else he's written but I'm adapting to this and every other song on Diamond Eyes is as close to perfect as Chino ever gets lyrically. I just have such high expectations for his lyrics that I found it really difficult to accept at first especially since it reminded me of the shitty "King Kong in the trunk" dance song.

Like in "When Girls Telephone Boys," the song is very angry and solemn for the most part but the title is sort of tongue in cheek and the some of the lyrics like "I would call but I forget where the phone is at" are somewhat humorous but still sarcastic and angry. To me, that's the perfect marriage of aggression and humor but like I said, the King Kong reference was just a little too low-brow for me to handle in lyrics that are otherwise excellent.

So yeah. I'm glad some people are feeling me on this. I still feel like they're kind of holding back in this track. I would hold it up to songs like "Rapture" and I feel like "Rapture" does a better job at being one of the "brutal" tracks. Still love the shit out of this album though.

lol. Not a fan of that song at all and definitely wouldn't hold that artists songs in the same regard as Deftones.
