Hesperian Death-Horse!

Ok. So this song, to me, feels like it just barely missed its mark. It sounds like either Abe drank a bottle of weaksauce before he laid this one down, OR the producer just sucked the badassery out of the performance by lowering the overall drum levels or dropping all the punch from the drums in the mix. I'm thinking it was the latter. This song really needed that push from the drums and I think they made a fatal error with it by mixing it the way they did. It seriously makes the Deftones sound like they're trying to be heavy and failing, which is something at which they could never fail.

I also feel like the song could have stood to be a few BPM faster. Just seems kind of dead. The funny thing is that the drums at the beginning of "Beauty School" are at the appropriate level that would have done the trick for "CMND/CTRL" in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get over this issue and soon enough the song in question will right at home with me.

Only other issue is "King Kong. Get some." Seriously? Why?

Other than that, I'm pretty good with this album. Kind of has that spacey vibe that they were talking about before SNW and that I was expecting from that album.

Brutal Song i like it.

Moz

I love this song. it really stands out because of the energy, reminds me of the ATF days. I dunno man, I just love it, sorry.

Yeah, I just don't get that one.   ;D

It makes me laugh, which (judging by the mood of the song) I don't think is the intention.

Zeppllin

Not one of my favorites on the album but I like it..I didn't really notice a difference in the drum sounds tho...  The riff and the drums sound pretty hard to play..It has some weird timing in some spots..

This is probably the most complete deftones album in my opinion.. All the songs fit well in the spots they are in.. I've found myself trying to listen to it on shuffle and its hard because the songs all seem to fit so well in the order they are.. Not many albums do that for me... The last album I can think of that I couldn't put on shuffle was The Downward Spiral and that was many years ago lol

Crazy. Maybe my idea of it was over-exaggerated  because everyone hyped it as the "heavy brutal track" for this album and I will concede that it is the most consistently heavy song on the album but I must have been expecting more due to the hype. Plus I've been listening to a lot of Converge lately so anything heavy in comparison would probably just sound weak. I do really like the song I just think it could have been handled better on the production end but I'm a meticulous motherfucker.

I also initially felt like the "chorus" on The Mars Volta's "Tetragrammaton" should have been faster and had louder drums (that whole album needed the drums turned up but anyway...). Just felt like it didn't make its mark of intensity that it was going for but I eventually adjusted to that as well.

Starz

I think it's the best song on the album IMO. I love the 'You see I'm well aware...Your're out of your mind...' Those lyrics just seems to fit the melody he's singing perfectly. It's amazing what lyrics can do to a song, takes it to a personal level for the listener.

When I read the 'King Kong' lyrics though...wtf? Chino's hip-hop influences coming out there.

Subliminal

I personally think the song hits the hardest.

Penicks

i think it's really unique. love the rhythm

this new record is very futuristic, spacey and fresh, so i think its very cool to put a song like this on it cause the song is very demoish, back to the roots and underground sort of...the opposite what this rec stands for. like someone said "like a b-side to adrenaline". it got that razor sharp guitar and some old school deftones rap vocals in it. i dont think it is meant to be taken as serious as the heavy and raw wgtb for example, more a playful flirt with the past.
i dig it

bitch you're barbaric, king kong, get some

i fucking love this track.

Jacob

I love the song. it reminds me of their old nu-metal sound without sounding like a blast from the past. it's one of those songs where the verse and chorus are equally amazing.
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

You know, I feel it's a little unorthadox myself.  Frank's effects throw it off for me, but i still like it. And yeah those lyrics sound like they were fuckin around and someone told him to keep it or something. Just probably one of the most far away tracks from them that I would expect to hear, thats all.
Pushing you back but still you ain't goooooooooone!!!!!!
