Deftones has probably never sounded better.
With new thinking and curiosity, Deftones makes a grand return.
In fact, they have probably never sounded better.

ALTERNATIVE METAL Deftones from California can hardly be accused of getting stuck in the past.
For more than 30 years, the alternative metal band has been almost allergic to the status quo. Even after the loss of member Chi Cheng, they found the strength to continue.
After the soft and relatively quiet "Gore", Deftones is now pushing in the opposite direction on their ninth album "Ohms". And that together with returning producer Terry Date , who made their first four records. Anger and frustration over, among other things, today's harsh conversational climate and polarization in society are heavily covered by Abe Cunningham's thunderous drumming, Stephen Carpenter's groovy riffs and Chino Moreno's passionate screams and sweet singing.

But beyond the wrath there is also a lot of warmth. Fascinating sensitivity, crisp melodies and atmospheric synth loops through the hard facade, signed Frank Delgado .
They even manage to make samples of screaming seagulls feel gripping.

The glow and nuances make Deftone's ninth album an unexpected peak of form.
And that at the same year that the iconic album "White Pony" and "Diamond Eyes" celebrate 20 and 10 years respectively.

Suddenly, 2020 became significantly better.

BEST TRACK: "This link is dead".

Thanks for this! Definitely agreed here.

Another interview with Abe that's kinda funny, he makes fun of Stef during the recording process and talks about the fans overlaying the Ohms eyes on Chi's picture. They mistook that for Chino and used his picture, EPIC FAIL. LOLZ..

Stef has wanted to do that studio lock-out idea for years - well over a decade now.  It's too unconventional for the band, though ( = $$$).  Stef is prob the most down to earth of the guys.  Special nod to Abe and Chi too.  Zero ego.  Loves his fans and appreciates the success they've had.  Very genuine, sweet guy.  The fact that he entertains alternative theories shows he has an open mind to what's out there.  Maybe he does think he's pretty smart, but he's not wrong.

Someone must pay him (and the band) $500 every time they use the word "engaged" when describing the Ohms writing/recording process.  It's obvious their PR person heavily preps them for these interviews and prepares responses to generic questions.  Hell I wouldn't be surprised if some press are requested to ask certain questions to ensure the PR narrative is established.  This manicured publicity only started with DE - immediately following Chi's accident and forward.

I did a second interview about DeftonesLive, with Woody from 93X Radio, as part of his Deftones-dedicated podcast "Change (In The House Of Pods)"

Sly (who runs DeftonesArchive and is also part of the DeftonesLive team) had his own interview as well on Musically Meditated

Thanks for the links, bro! Going to listen to them in a few!

"Something in our music that has a little provocative kind of vibe to it. And I feel like that exists in our music for some reason. I don't know where it comes from."

Believing in nonsense conspiracy theories is a symptom of spending way too much time on the internet.

Honestly? He can believe whatever he wants. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter and doesn't change my fandom of his music.

As for what I believe: I look at the anti-vaxx opinions as a "your body, your choice" thing. He's wrong that vaccines have never done anything in history (uh, polio? lol) but if he doesn't want to take them, fine. No skin off my back.

The flat earth thing I just don't get. If the earth was flat, there would have to be huge edges of the earth where there was just no land anymore. Places where the earth would just stop. Where are those places? Flat earth really just feels like stoner banter type of shit to me, so no surprise it's coming from Stephen. Whatever.
