raise your hand if you think this album is "too" catchy. and by that i mean literally "too" catchy, as in it will not stand the test of time because i got it all on the first 3 listens. yeah some of the songs were awesome but this album has lost hold already...

"coming into the nearness of distance"

pepis

Lost hold?

WTF man, theres nothing wrong with al abum being catchy if its a good album.
You mean Nirvana´s nevermind sucks because its catchy? one of the best albums ever made!
white pony is the catchiest of  all of the deftones abums and its a hell of an album.

i know where you are coming from....yet its not 'too' catchy...elements of it seem like a departure from the past, yet onward also...some parts are very radio friendly, almost remind me of incubus, in sense.... sextape especially...still like the album.. still gonna buy it. i think all of deftones albums will stand the test of time. anyway who cares.. if you like it, yay. if others dont, so what

Yeah, I too can see where you're coming from.
I flogged the album when I first got it, and I have decided to stop now until I get the official copy, as I don't want to kill it.

In saying that however, I DO think it will stand the test of time.
It's a killer album, catchy but not "too" catchy.

I don't agree. Catchy for Deftones? Yes. Catchy in the normal sense of the word? No. There is a lot going on in every song though. I have a feeling that we will be able to hear more on the final mix.

yea, I think the final mix will sound a little different.  But Its such a great record.  I have no complaints!

nineteenpeoplesnames

I think they got it just right on this one....it hooks you in but still has that artistic integrity and originality.

I'm struggling to know how to say it.... I think when an album sounds quite short and catchy, there's a risk of it sounding too pop.

aj

i haven't even heard it yet :)

Crazylegs

yeah, last time i checked, "thriller" sucked balls.

Dienekes

I know where you were trying to go but thriller does suck balls...

Rxx

I wouldnt say its catchy.. it has catchy songs yes, I just think its too short! and I miss the usual electronic track or just an instrumental one.

Hidalgo

"thriller" what? Michael Jackson's thriller album? man helllllllllll nawwwww that don't suck

Timmy666

Too catchy? Agreed.

jesusinabowlofdirt

thriller is great but that besides the point. i guess crazy legs meant- because thriller is pop, and a really great album - its ok if Deftones also go pop because pop can be good. but the difference is course that mj is pop from the beginning and not expected to be anything else, while deftones is metal / rock and is not expected to be pop- so it may be more upsetting about deftones not releasing their style. even if the songs are good.
personally i think de is poppier at times but they get away with it

wheresmysnare

Catchy is ok aslong as it's done well.

Diamond Eyes incorporates catchy elements, however in every song you can hear the maturity gained from Deftones years and years of experience of propping up the alt rock/metal genre.

I'm glad they're realising the benefits of making songs that sound good on the first listen and let me tell you they are doing it with a hell of a lot more credibility than a lot of other bands. Hope this gets them a load of pay cheques.

beaverwithfishyshoes

no. i actually felt it took me longer to "get it" than previous records. i guess people differ. but 3 listens: can't be. they toy with time signatures and chord structures you have to get your head around, especially beauty school or evil, and after 10 listens there still wasn't a line from chino or memorable riff stuck in my head. only diamond eyes and sextape click pretty fast.

sing blue silver

not for me. still feels fresh and only time can tell how it stands up. we won't get a proper perspective for months. and theres nothing wrong with catchy songs.

wither-I

deftones should do a cover of "sex on fire"

"coming into the nearness of distance"
