May be the best Deftones song ever. I listened to that today, loud, about 20 times and that song plain, flat out rocks. The jangly guitar intro is so awesome and then you get your nose and both eyes blackened soon thereafter. Abe is a fucking beast on this. I can see drumheads breaking when I hear him pounding away! And the ending, GOD HELP ME!

Does anyone know the story behind this song? I have heard it is about Columbus discovering America or Julius Ceasar. I also noticed that on iTunes, oddly enough, it is on a collection of "vampire songs". Anybody have any inside info?

Btw, the video kicks ass too.

I never really thought about the meaning of this song before. But I have a few ideas...

The Columbus discovery is my first guess, since we have sailing, sea, and falling off the world. But we have admiration and love also so it could be lovers sailing on the voyage.

With the mention of the vampire play list my thought is: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Since we that's a vampire love story about escaping Earth to live together on the vampire planet. The only song I know that is about Bloodlust is Finch's "Bitemarks and Bloodstains".

i always thought the chorus was kind of weak.

beside that the song kick ass

Chino's vocals are to loud and a bit off key in the chorus, alot of S/T is like that. GMB chorus comes to mind(closest he comes to annoying me on any song), also DB, etc. his worst vocals sound wise, and melodies of any album.(makes sense, it was the album after the vocal damage) i defended the album when it came out but i knew it wasn't even close to their best. they phoned it in

deathblow is one of my all time favorite songs. also bloody cape is awesome.

Hidalgo

deathblow is pretty cool, i always liked it. bloody cape rocks for sure. wouldn't put either near the top deftones songs, but they're still good. i love the video for bloody cape

Sushi-X

O_o and what do you consider top deftones songs?

yeah the video is just kind of meh. the performance parts are cool, as usual, but that chick with the dog... who gives a fuck. doesn't dampen my enjoyment of the song though.

Yeah no doubt. One of my favorite songs for sure.

bloody cape would have got 0 airplay, it's just not a single kinda song, it's not easy on the ears. you gotta get what they were going for to fully appreciate the song. average joe schmo would have changed the station everytime. same reason hexagram got 0 play. that and his vocals on that albums weren't at his best. needles and pins was the obvious and only choice for a 2nd single, but they chose hexagram and it bombed. i knew it was a bad choice

sing blue silver

hexagram actually got a decent amount of video play on much music up here as i remember. always after dark though. i remember when minerva was all over the place though. that shit was dope.

Hidalgo

minerva did get played on radio and mtv quite a lot for a few months. it was a hit for them, it did well and rightfully so

sing blue silver

yeah. we don't have any radio stations here that would ever dare play any deftones though i've heard tool once or twice on the radio. we mostly have oldies and top 40 pop shit. what do i mean mostly. that's literally all it is.

Bloody Cape is that song that I play during hot summers when im in the car driving or just walking in a lonely sunny street, you get the feeling!

ToneDef

I like it, but it's not up there with the best for me.

Jacob

I love the verses of this song, but I just can't get into the chorus. it barely has any kind of hook and Chino's voice is kinda annoying in it. it ends up being a good but disappointing song that they could've done so much more with. and that pretty much sums up the entire S/T album for me - great ideas, but unfinished and half-assed songs.
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

bloody cape was way better live too.  chino would scream  the "fall off the earth" parts.  awesome!

Drinks won't stain this birth!

downtownpony

Watch bloody cape live on carson daily. The second time he sings the chorus '' ever to fall off of the earth''  he fuckin kills it. Then the ''god help me'' screams at the end are brutal. Also deathblow at roy wilkins auditoriom or whatever is really good. He sings the chorus alot better than on the cd.
