huh i dont get it, why you'd "get the tuning of the 6-string, but the feel of the 7-string" with BEADGEE? you miss the high B. tuning of the 6-string wot?

The Bottom 6 Strings are in E stantard tunning EADGBE And the 7th is an extra high E so it goes EADGBEE And for drop d DADGBEE and so on

Aye, and when you want to ring out those EE strings.. you don't have the annoyance of one of them being tuned in 'B' and sounding awful because you don't have any extra palm or fingers to mute it, like you would on a six string.

would the high B ringing out always sound awful? you mean this in context of riffs like where he basically plays powerchords with these open string "above them".. think Royal or Risk contains these for example. sounds like more than just E.

Not always. But riffs like Hexagram, When Girls Telephone Boys, Rapture, Rocket Skates, he always rings out the bottom two strings and bars what would be the 'B' string on the 7 string guitar, same with Fireal on the 6 string during the chorus riff. So if you imagine he tunes his 7 strings to C, C# etc. he's got that one extra string he can't bar like he usually would on the 6 string in those tunings. So that's why I presumed he's tuned two strings the same to save the hassle of trying to silence it during a chord :)

It's the same with Fireal

I have some kind of email contact with sol invicto, a side project of stef and we got to talk about stef playing his 8string model on F#, dunno if some drop stuff or standard though. just transpose ist. standard E can sound evil aswell if you use E as key. :P

If you get into contact again, ask him what tuning Royal is :) I believe it's Drop C, because it involves ringing out the F and C strings in that tuning. But during the verses ''Face to face..'' there's some strings/notes he's playing that are faint and I can't figure them out in Drop C.

I've just read on Wikipedia that Steph tunes the high string EADGBD and the same with all the rest. But I'm not sure where that info is from, know anything about that? :)

u mean bar as 'to mute'? and exactly why cant he mute the high B on a 7, while he can on a 6. depending on the particular chord/grip, he might be able to mute it id think. why would EE rather sound good. maybe BB would sound good sometimes instead of EE.

i wonder during the real chorus, his lowest chord is a G, is that around this height or an octave lower, so with  the 7th and 8th string.
