Like I've said before, the past 5 years have seen countless big albums get leaked or even lesser known albums. Yet they're always more succesful than the one before?

you mean like snw?

That was leaked just as became a CD. I remember it was only a few weeks prior to release.

And yes, it was more succesful than Self Titled, why do you think? the internet wasn't blooming when that came out. It was still all dial up and msn. SNW tooks years to come out and there was hype about their return, plus the internet of course. But anyway :)

subliminal is losing it and missing the point. he's debating his view of piracy and leaking records, insted of the the issue here ...
if deftones illegaly leaked it it themself and therefor commited a crime.

Illegal? if it was Unlawful, I'd understand where you was coming from. It's their music, their art, their creation, if they wish to leak it, they can and will. They don't have to reveal that they did it though ;)

That's IF they did and the rumours are true.

i hear those "mail bleeps" through the whole Butcher verses, and not in EVIL.

wasnt Deftones label always Maverick? not Warner Bros.?

Here we go with physical CD sales again. How long has Self Titled been out and how long has SNW been out? How long has SNW been available on the internet for free? and how long was it until people would even bother downloading Self Titled when it was uploaded for free on torrent sites?

You do the math :)

it cost a lot of dollars to make records u know. speaking of the self titled album, it cost about 2,5 million dollars to produce for maverick. do u really think deftones leaked the album after those kind of costs for diamond eyes? u know they sign papers on this sort of stuff- making it a crime for deftones to go ahead and do so.warner in this case prob own the rights to their music, they dont pump in millions and think its ok for deftones to do whatver they want with that material afterwards.and if u still believe deftones would do so,well then they are criminals

beaverwithfishyshoes

S/T costed 2,5 million to produce? what about that kid in africa.. its a great record.. buh

yeah if a record sells a whole lot more than another record, then i think of it as more successful.

Incorrect. A journalist leaked it. Self Titled was leaked due to the cd being shipped to stores.

and although we all had dial up's during 'self titled''s release, we still downloaded it ;) the internet and piracy was huge when it came out

I didn't even know it had leaked, since I didn't have the internet then, as I was a lot younger, along with the thousands upon thousands of other new generation fans of Deftones. This is my point..times have changed since the release of Self Titled. The internet, physical sales etc. have all dramatically changed since then. Thus making everything easier to get a hold of.

And what's incorrect? a Journalist leaked SNW because it was being into CDs by that point, thus the Journalist got a copy to review, then leaked it.

Sounds correct to me? :)

the thought of it is absurd but there is one guy here trying to prove it to be so. of course his arguments does not hold water, but u cannot blame the guy for not trying. if u found this thread, cant believe u missed out on those opinions

hi.
first post here.

firstly, i had a link to a stream of the album. just like whoever leaked it had. it didnt even have my email on it, which is the norm for many records, wasnt even watermarked or anything. it was from a third party PR firm, not even warners-reprise. is there really any surprise this got leaked? it happens (this way) to albums ALL THE TIME. all the fucking time. and the labels know it. there's nothing they can do short of holding listening sessions in-house right up until its pressing time just to prevent leaks. domino record co do that, the only CDs that go out are covered in big red X's and has your name printed on the case, on the disc and watermarked onto the audio - and they're only given to high profile radio Djs and label subsidiary bosses.

secondly, if the band themselves were going to leak this, it'd be from a CD. nobody records a stream of their own album and uploads it when forty copies of the master disc are sitting on their kitchen table.

thirdly, it's mastered. i have no proof whatsoever in saying this, but y'all just gonna have to trust me. a stream of an unfinished album would not get put up. before something is mastered, the only people with the music are the band themselves (sometimes) and the label. MAYBE the mastering house. the second it gets mastered, copies of the album are sent out around the world within days/minutes/hours. the most recent Grizzly Bear record got leaked a day after it was mastered. was sent straight to Warp records, that got put on a server somewhere for a back up and ta-dah! leaked.

this isn't out of the ordinary, this leak. it happens every day.

sorry for that long post!  :-*
