Contract. You sign up for a certain amount of albums. Usually around 4 to 10. They probably signed up for 3 with the label, then when White Pony was so huge, they signed up for 4 more. S/T, SNW, Diamond Eyes, then they'll release Eros and be free from the label. But I'm just guessing and speculating.

why exactly 4 more? ah, so it will support your theory, well how convenient :) anyway, thanks for answering ONE question out of about TEN (a question iceache already answered) we wont come any further than this, u think deftones are criminal scumbags and i dont. lets agree to disagree

I also heard them in Butcher.

Weird, I hear the Soulseek message beep in You've Seen The Butcher. Don't know if it's the same that you can hear on Gmail, I don't use Gmail. But I definitely thought I had a message on soulseek while listening to YSTB.

Jacob

I reacted on that sound the first time I listened to the song in headphones. I was on a train and thought it might be a message sound or something. then I just assumed it was Frank. now I'm so used to it that I think it fits perfectly into the song ;D
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

No More Sugar

hahaha i just got it last night

super unexpected

Criminals??

It's not my theory, it's the theory if they had leaked it or close enough. Use your imagination. I'd leak my own album if I was stuck on a shitty label and in a contract I signed years ago, does that make me a criminal? or does that make me the rightful owner of MY music, trying to take the power back with who and how the person gets to hear it?

He did say he was just guessing and speculating. Who said they were criminal scumbags? Huh???

Slayer signed for 10+ records with Def Jam, they've got one/two more to go. Same with Metallica, Death Magnetic was their final album in their deal. It's how the business works, you have to forefill the contract and the company owns the rights to YOUR creation. Sounds great..

jesusinabowlofdirt

if the record company go in with lots of money in form of advertising, videos, certainly pay studio time and producers, etc,etc (big dollars)
i can guarantee u they want their money back in the form of record sales.deftones and Warner have agreed on this. and if deftones, after they took part of all that money,  illegally release the disc on the side, it is most likely criminal. subliminal support this theory. well there u go

I have heard a few rumors that what we are hearing is not the final mix or an incomplete mix. Personally I don't buy this cause rs and de sound the same as the regular versions.

A bigger question is who leaked it and how does it affect the band? I know 99% of the people on here are going to buy a copy and many will buy two. What about the average Joe though? Anybody think this could really hurt sales or be detrimental to the band?

Another rumor I have read conjectures that the band themselves leaked it because the file says leaked dub. I find this one ridiculous but I am just putting it out there. My hope is that the leak just generates good word of mouth and this thing sells like hotcakes but who knows...
KILL YOURSELF

please keep it more civil and mature than that.

Really?

If someone starts an 'I've heard a few rumors' thread, they should kill themselves.

And you (a MODERATOR) should give a fuck.  Sorry.

I give a fuck about wether people act decent or not here. there's nothing wrong with starting a thread if you want to share a rumor you heard - given the rumor isn't flat out ridiculous. there's reason to suspect the leak not being the final version and it might prove to be useful information worth discussing. either way, it's not your place to decide. disagree with him all you want, but do it in a nicer tone.

If this leak isn't the final version, then I'm the queen of England.

But I'm on your side.  It's not my place to decide.  Fuck it.

I'm confused.

I'm scared.

I don't know where I am right now.

God bless.

Help me.

It's not a crime/illegal if you don't get caught :)

Deftones and Warner would have agreed on this many moons ago, way even before Deftones knew about the crock of shit that is the music business. Once you've signed on the dotted line, you're trapped. The only way out is to end the band, split or leave or make the same band under a different name. But would these guys give up their name just because of their contract? hell no. Aslong as the music gets out to the people that will turn up to see you play, why would the physical cd sales matter? bands make all their money from live gigs and merchandising. The physical number of CD sales only benefit the label. Profit, profit, profit. For them! ;)

Like I've said before, the past 5 years have seen countless big albums get leaked or even lesser known albums. Yet they're always more succesful than the one before? I wonder why this is, could it be the hype surrounding it's leak has gained more momentum than the actual advertising the label has put into place? hmm, you tell me!

Following the success of Hell Awaits, Slayer was offered a recording contract with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin's newly founded Def Jam Records, a largely rap-based label.

Weird, I hear the Soulseek message beep in You've Seen The Butcher. Don't know if it's the same thahttps://adserver.itsfogo.com/click.aspx?zoneid=29537t you can hear on Gmail, I don't use Gmail. But I definitely thought I had a message on soulseek while listening to YSTB.

Its pretty obvious then it needs to be mastered and mixed further. I c this leak as a positive in a way because this will trigger people into acquiring the product which means the booklet and of course the final mastered high quality version of music u pay for.
