maybe theyll do what thrice did and release a digital version early...

Hopefully, but as Thrice said at the time....

"Leaks happen overnight. Changing an entire retail marketing plan doesn't."

here's an article about the album's leak being incomplete.

"and apparently people are claiming that in "You've Seen The Butcher" there are sounds reminiscent of Gmail's chat function, giving credence to the argument that the leak came from a streaming copy. "

has anyone encountered this?

I thought I was going mad when I heard those beeps....

Also, the spaces between tracks seem a little odd.

It is the final version. The quality is 320kps. No leaks are ever that high in quality if they're this early!

What's so crazy about the rumour of Deftones themselves leaking it? Has anyone seen how many views Rocket Skates has gotten on Youtube!? Something tells me this leak will only mean good things for the band.

The Blackening leaked by Machine Head and that was still huge. Sacrament by Lamb of God leaked and it was their highest Billboard release at that time, same with their next album Wrath, that leaked a few weeks before and still, it hit higher than Sacrament and has cemented their Arena status in the States. Death Magnetic leaked two weeks early, oh look, it's Metallica's biggest release in years. Slayer's World Painted Blood leaked a few weeks early and that was still succesful, Same with All Hope Is Gone by Slipknot, they hit number 1 on the Billboard ffs.

Anyone who has caught up with the times, needs to. It is inevitable for an album leak now. It's no longer 'how' but 'when' it will leak.

If the songs are good and the videos are played often (Rocket Skates) and they're insanely popular (like it evidently is on Youtube) people will go find out where the leak of the album is, check it out and if they love it, they're most likely to go to a show and buy some merchandise. Even buy the physical copy, because they like to have the packaging and high quality. Same with Diamond Eyes the song, it's excellent, I'm sure when there's a video for that and it's released, people will be like ''Man I'm looking forward to this album''

Compare Rocket Skates/Diamond Eyes to Hole In The Earth/Mein, they piss all over them (and I'm not saying those tracks aren't good, they're awesome) but 1. Rocket Skates just nails it and Diamond Eyes is just pure epic and a lot darker than Mein, plus it sounds like nothing we've heard before. It's like a mainstream/melodic Meshuggah.

I only get a good feeling from this leak and the coming success of the album. Everyone loves to get on their high horse and get all angry about it leaking. But it's time to realize, it's going to happen and it gets more people keen and into what it is that is leaking. This is only a good thing for a band and I'm sure they'll know this themselves. It's all about controversy and hype to get interest. All it's going to take is a Kerrang! News section saying ''Outrage as new Deftones Album leaks Two months early!'' then people are going to check it out, fan or not.

People, let's get over the CD sales bullshit. They make barely ANY money from CD sales, the record label does and we all know the record label isn't around for the interests of the band (or any band for that matter) only themselves (the publicity/advertising/marketing for SNW is a prime example of this, it was poor!) If this leak gets more people to a show and buying Merch. It's a WIN/WIN situation for the band.

They've already earned a good £60 (100$) from me, since I'm planning on going to a few show when they hit up the UK next. I haven't seen them in years and I've GOT to see some of the new stuff live. Same goes with pretty much everyone who has downloaded the leak on here. Right?

I understand what you're saying for sure.

Who knows, 'leaks' could be part of the strategy of putting out a record now... instead of fighting it, they could be using it.
That's on one hand. On the other it could just be the usual tale of leaking an album.

Publicity wise, leaking an album probably does help.

Alright like its been said countless of times. Bands do not make much money of physical copies. Hell i think its the same for digital.
As for leaks, its like someone said earlier. Its now a matter of 'when'. Every new album leaks. Thats just the reality. On the subject of the label dropping them. I think the band is past the point of needing a label. They could do a radiohead/trent reznor release. And every true or hardcore fan on here would glady pay knowing that the cash is going directly to the band.

that just seems like wishful thinking to me.... i dont think warner bros, who makes a living on selling copies, put the copies out for free.thats suicide. if a person who would hear the new deftones rec in relation to when it drops then maybe it would be good for them... because that person would think it was fresh and buy it. but as it is know... many people who arent die hard fans but still would be potential buyers, will propbably be tired of it when it drops and look for other things and dont buy it. i think it would sell best when everyone's got the "wow - feeling" of hearing it for the first couple of times...but that wow-feeling will be gone in middle of may when leaking so early.... only fans will buy it.such early leak would be a bad plan, if the leak would be of any good it would be in may. and i really began to laugh when metallica would have gave songs away for free, they and their label will never be like that, they are stuck in the past.

and putting out a single or two for the promotion is one thing, like and advertisement for the whole record. but leaking the entire album is a completely other thing.why do they put out teasers with a riff and shots of the cover and when the whole shit is out? doesnt make any sense. if it is true, that the teaser riff strategy and leaking the album is both strategy, then the other hand doesnt really know what the other hand is doing. the ideas collide. i dunno maybe im the stuck in the past.

(and subliminal would go see the show anyway, even if u hadnt heard the record :)

djzap

the guy who leaked it is on a website that i'm on. he said that he ripped it from a stream supplied by the label for review purposes. there you go. and yes it is a transcode - that means it's not actually 320kbps quality.

Starz

Show us the source i.e. the website where he said that please.

Maybe just the leaked version i got but if you listen to "You've Seen The Butcher" at 0:43 and 0:46-0:48 you can hear google message alerts ;D

i got the same version. strange to be marketing the record with those mp3's ?

Caín

white pony leaked about 2 months early 10 years ago. i remember downloading the leak from napster. still the record was successful. no harm done.

jesusinabowlofdirt

yeah but the discussion in this thread is if it was done on purpose from the label. (and we dont know if it made any harm back in 2000 with white pony.. maybe it would have sold the double if it werent able for downloading. we have nothing to compare to)

Cherry Waves

At the 53 second mark of Prince i've noticed someone laughing in the background, when i have my headphones in i think someones looking at me and laughing and then realise its in the song! I doubt thats meant to be a part of the song??
EAD!

Slacker

im not to sure for this to be a final cut. the quality is certainly doubtful

se7ennn

it's weird cause the album is already posted twice on youtube, and it hasn't been taken down yet. WMG don't seem to care too much about the leak it seems.

Wow just searched YT for a few of the songs, and you're right, they're all still up..wtf? So Vesanic can't keep his unowned live shows up, but an entire new album that leaked 2 months early can?? Maybe they don't know yet??

I just checked like 10 times, and I'm pretty positive my version does not have this at all. And the download I had gotten is a 320kbps version as well. I can post up the song if you want me to prove.

jesusinabowlofdirt

it really wont change anything. if warner bros want people to get their stuff for free, why isnt the mp3s available on their website or at deftones.com?
