Diamond Eyes album cover reveal

I hope it's on some kind of gate-fold style CD with expanded artwork etc, rather than a jewel case. Obviously a jewel-case is fine but y'know...

I am stoked about the cover. An owl seems kind of weak at first but it just fits.

1. The owl is a nocturnal predator. This album has such a nighttime vibe for me. The mindset of a killer.
2. The album is called diamond eyes. The teaser featured the golden eyes of a great horned owl which are very cool, however, I much prefer the black eyes of the barn owl (correct me if I am wrong here) they are empty, black. These might be diamond eyes but they are a blank slate. They are left for you, the listener to fill in. I love that.
3. The owl is white, soft and pure. But the owl is, as I established, a predator and a killer. A beautiful dichotomy. Exactly like the album, and, much like the band.

For me, this image is the icing on the cake. A perfect visual metaphor for the music and writing.

The synergy of music, imagery and feeling behind this album make it a pinnacle for the band. Nobody in the music business today is doing what these guys are doing right now. Deftones are in thier prime as artists at this moment.

Sorry, I know I am going off but I just have to gush. This album for me is a life changing, genre bending colossus.

Nicely put, and well-analyzed. To me it's still just a cover. I look at it probably about a second, just as I take the CD out and put it back. If I was more into photography and it was this amazingly beautiful and artistic and symbolic cover, I'd have more interest in it, but this isnt supposed to be about the cover, the music matters a huge amount more to me. Cover's growing on me, but not a big deal still.

it seems to me you cared about it in a positive way and got a affected by it a lot - therefor you could have some understanding for people disliking it and them getting affected by it in a bad way. personally im not going bananas over it but its pretty ugly.

if you meet a person who got a nice tattoo and that tattoo is self-designed by that person, you kind of respect that tat even more.. than if that person just went in a tattoo store and pointed at a picture in a booklet and said "that one please"

i think of it in the same way about the cover, maybe not deftoes making something themlselves but anyway some photographer listen to the music and click a photo or some dude designing a painting for the cover.im sure its much cheaper this way, with a stock photo, but theyre suppose to be artists. suppose to be unique. and picking a photo like this, a photo pretty much anwyone can get, isnt so unique.

but maybe the good music on the album will lift the cover a bit, im sure it will. a little anyway

I agree 100% i read some where that " if Frank maddock is doing it then it will be badass" but all he did was grabbed a stock photo and threw some a new font on it and not much else. I'll wait till i see the whole package before i pass judgment, but right now its a little uninspired. I dig the Owl but knowing its a stock photo eh idk. at least its got some bad ass music inside

I think the Ribbon font would have been awesome. with that white owl and the ribbon font it would make be a contrast to whats going on inside. Clean elegance on the outside, Murderous Rage on the inside. I think it would be cool if they did this whole clean and beautiful outside and have the disc its self have like blood splater on it or something. It would go with the whole contrast thing. Diamond Eyes is pretty much Murderous rage coming out in the most beautiful way

Not Saying this is good....but the fact that its this easy to create an album cover with stock photography is sad. I just dont like the idea anyone can buy the photo. It's like if A band used garage band and put their name on it. sad.
