if you really think they will become (or became already) a pop-metal band and that HURTS you on the butt that bad you can always stop listening to them. What about that?

Personally i dont think they will cross that line. Just because they got stef in the band lol. Maybe, someday if he quit to play golf, and chino takes over the band that can happen. MAYBE.

I was so with you until you said if chino takes over the band they could be pop metal... 2 words... TEAM SLEEP.

God I love TS! Man, sorry you can't vibe on that. My girl loves it. I am like Pavlov's dog at this point. I hear that and pop a tent (tomb of ligea excluded... That is a definate boner killer..)

Seriously, that is some beautiful music, see cherry waves and beware... Don't see much difference there.

When I say pop-metal, I don't mean radio-friendly.  Radiohead is a good comparison. Both bands have their singles, but the majority of their material demands repeated listening. I am not judging diamond eyes exclusively. IMO, saturday night wrist was way too polished. and by the sounds of it, diamond eyes might be preserving that (pro tools or no pro tools). I still believe a lot of this has to do with the change in producers. Terry Date and Deftones are inseparable and I'm disappointed Eros is collecting dust for now.

I totally agree with you on the SNW thing. Way too polished im my opinion as well. Hopefully this new producer will bring some of the old 'dirty' and more like a live session sound that Terry showed us with the first records.

from what Ive heard.. (RocketSkates, and the clip of DE) Nick R. seems to be waay better in the producers chair than Slopez was. Im not as big a fan of the drum sounds he gets from Abe as Terry Date did, BUT his production seems to be very spacey and top notch quality if you ask me. Very very huge sound, I played Rocket Skates and the next song to come on the playlist was Feiteceira and the production on it was not near as "big" sounding as Rocket Skates suprisingly.

So all in all, I think the sounds on the new record arent really anything to worry about. Its the songs that matter most anyways

JESUS CHRIST ... are you fucking children serious about the radio-friendly/pop stuff?  this is why everyone thinks this board is full of raging retards.

These guys have been together for over 20 years.  I think they've earned the right to make whatever the fuck they want to.

I'm happy that they seem to finally be getting some serious marketing behind them.  they deserve it.  if they have some stuff that gets radioplay, then GREAT.  it's still going to be deftones, you numbskulls.  I mean, these guys aren't putting out a record of limp bizkit songs.

STFU already.

The line that says 'time will see us realise'

I think  this is actually

'time will see us realign'

It makes more sense, the lyrics are quite astrological, which reminds me a bit of SNW. I have to say at first i thought the chorus was quite radio friendly but now i think the chorus is amazing but it does seem to kind of crash head first into the chugging verse, it'll make more sense overall once the full thing is out

i loved the preview, im just want to her the whole song now!

I hear the same thing. realign. I also think "diamonds rain" is correct, because he then says shower me into the same realm.

I agree, liking this over rocket skates at the moment, kind of shoe gaze style deftones, think there'll be a good mix of styles on this album.

You guys bitching about it sounding radiofriendly are nuts.  Deftones have had countless songs over the years that were mellow and catchy enough to be played on the radio, even though they rarely are.  The difference between Deftones' radio singles and the generic post-grunge bullshit you hear on the radio is that Deftones singles are actually GOOD, at the very least.

Anyways, if that Metal Hammer review is correct, the breakdown is "one of the heaviest moments in deftones' history."  Hardly a trait of your common radio single.

I personally love the thirty seconds i've been fortunate enough to hear.  In fact, i've been rockin a semi ever since I first heard it and now my balls are starting to hurt.  Hopefully this shit will leak soon so I can finally blow my load.

once again, the Deftones will NEVER sound like or be like Linkin Park.  If you dont like the new deftones then dont buy the new album.  that simple :)

not sure but i think that Diamond eyes is played with an 8 strings guitar. But STILL look at that fucking groove! I cant ask for more.

groove? huh. wait a few months for munky to give some fuckin groove. groove in this wtf? steph doesnt really groove anyway.

- boring riff
- more boring chord progression
- good songwriting would actually mean goosebumps and i havent. nothin wrong with pop. cherry waves, ever.. pop and goosbumps. this: not.
- has SNW sounds (which is a good record btw).. but not like they said back to basic sorta.

- but ok.. its the transition vocally verse-to-chorus which is the real horror; directly recognize that typical mtv band quality, a just catchy enought boring one-hit-wonder chorus .. normally i'd straight turn such shit off. how is this exciting really? full song please!
