I think WGTB is one of the best songs the band has written, albeit unbearingly brutal.  Minerva is simply gorgeous.  Hexagram is decades ahead of its time still.  Same goes for Needles and Pins - such interesting song structure.  Bloody Cape's a classic too.

I agree about WGTB and everything else you have said. I just WISH the band would see that S/T is a great album but I don't think they ever will. Battle-Axe is just a soul crushing, end of the world song which I could listen to for hours and hours. It's by far their best album I really want to hear Eros as I think it will sound a lot like S/T. Chino has said Eros is very dark.

SNW is their worst and that is only my opinion.

As a follow up to WP, yeah S/T really stinks, but by itself it is a very dark and beautiful record.

Hexagram was the first song I heard from the album when all the leaks came out and I didnt think much of it after being in love with WP. [Edit:] Now Hexagram is one of my favorite live Deftones songs.

WGTB is one of their best heavy songs to me. I remember listening to WGTB and absolutely hating the 30 sec clip, it was only when I heard the song playing in the record store on the night of the release party that I got chills down my spine over it.

Battle Axe is one of my favorites, I think it was called You Hate Fun or something.

Minerva is a fav too, Bloody Cape is the shit, ... ah hell.. I love the whole album except for Anniversary and Lucky You.  I just think theres a place for songs like thoses and its called a TeamSleep album.  I skipped class to run out and buy the Matrix Reloaded Sdtrk to hear the first officially released trk off S/T and was appalled at what I heard. I was expecting something more... IDK... hard rock, but instead it was some TS electronica.  I got a flat tire on my way back to school and actually got in trouble for skipping, so,.. yeah i dont like Lucky You, its not my lucky song.

White Pony will always stay @ the top for me, Passenger has a lot of personal meaning to me and thats partly why I love it.
I cant really decide between the other albums order because its always changing
SNW, however, will probably always be on the bottom. I just dont like the songs on that album, its Deftones watered down, just really weak album. its a complete turd to me, a VERY well polished turd i might add, but still a big stinky pile of communication failure.  The Deftones almost broke up over it, they admitted to not writing and recording it together as a band, its just an altogether uninspiring album.

No love for Moana? Dang, I think that song is brilliant. S/T is definitely near and dear to my heart. Each song is well written, and the flow and mood it creates as a whole is incredible. More than that though, I have a lot of good memories surrounding that album.

Oh fo sho, I love Moana. Although it took me a long time to come around to it.  I never did think it was a good album closer tho.

buddyboy101

Moana's trash.  They should have replaced it with Lovers/Kevin Sorbo instead.  Snap, I almost forgot about Anniversary - the other high water mark of the album and potentially their whole catalog.  You're a knucklehead if you can't appreciate Anniversary.  Battleaxe is cool too.  Never really got into Lucky You or Deathblow.

TheQuietDoom46

I'd say ST, WP, ATF. That order.

GOD HELP

GOOOOOOD !!!!

And it's a weak album ? Yeah, sure.

glassdomino

The best Deftones album, but Moana was a shit closer.

When I first joined this Forum I was singing S/T praises and I got a lot of comments from long term members saying stuff like "hardly anyone on here agrees with you man but that's cool you like S/T so much." People seemed to really dislike it but maybe now people are starting to realise how special it is :) Now all we need is the band themselves to realise S/T's potential lol...

It's Stef's 10 year theory.

(Except it's been less than 10 years since it's release.)

i think s/t put the death nail in future album sales for the band, and snw's sales suffered for it. i don't think they'll ever go gold again. a lot of people jumped ship after s/t. it sold ok off the WP buzz and how good the first 3 albums were, but reactions weren't so hot. it was just not what they needed to follow WP. i like the album, but resent it in a way also, and 03 sucked for me so that doesn't help, but even if i had a great year i still would know they could do much better

I agree with what you're saying.  White Pony was well-received because it was intelligent and different at the time.  Self-titled failed to maintain that arc of sprogression and experimentalism that was seen between all predecesing albums.  It was a step-backwards in terms of songwriting, which turned away people who found White Pony to be progressive for its time.

Moana's cool.  It's better than Lucky You, which isn't even a Deftones song.

Anniversary is spectacular.  Really wish I could have made it to the benefit show to see it live.  I hope they play it again so we can get some legit video.
