I'd rather have an album but I'm not complaining about more new music, regardless of it being drip fed.

Initially slightly preferred Initiation but Protection has really worked its way with me. Some really cool electronic moments, good low end to contrast the melody and simple Martin Gore-esque lyricism, and the last 45 seconds are great, ending on the piano. Really like that track.

Expect two more songs at the end of April:

As for when to expect more new music, Moreno said to anticipate another two new songs towards the end of April while the band "find a pace and keep them coming."

Asked about the direction of the upcoming pair of tracks, Moreno replied: "They're different, I will say that. One of the songs specifically is one that Shaun sent me and told me he didn't think I would like. Sometimes he'll send me something and I'll just throw some ideas and vocals on it and have it back to him in like four minutes.

"Out of all the Crosses material of the past, one of them is a little more uplifting and less cerebral. It has this vibe that we hadn't tapped into before, but once we dug into it we made it feel very much like us but just from a different angle. It's coming out just before the summer, so I'm excited about that."

Chino: Yeah, we already have a lot of finished stuff, and we're sort of planning out the releases. And we're continuing to write new stuff, even though we have plenty enough as it is, because when we get together it's really easy to start working on something new. I feel like we just keep unlocking these different doors to how we create. We have the next release in line already, mastered and ready to go with artwork and everything; and then in the next couple of weeks we'll be planning the next one, and hopefully getting on a certain schedule. There's a lot of different rooms that this project lives in, and I think with each release the picture gets wider, you know what I mean? I'm really excited for people to hear this as a whole, once everything's out there—we'll eventually release it as a whole album, sort of like what we did with the last record.

Hell yea! If we get a new song every month for the rest of the year I wouldn't mind that honestly..

Inkblades

New video for Protection out. Makes me wonder if they are going to put out videos for every song they'll be dropping?

Lol, so much for getting those 2 new songs at the end of the month..

There's still two more days in April!

But yeah, doesn't look like anything this month lol. Next week, maybe? Hopefully?

Shaun is teasing vinyl test pressings on his IG, so new songs soon is my bet.

Or maybe new songs aren't coming any time soon? At the very least, it seems like something in their game plan changed. I just hope this isn't another Team Sleep situation where it's "We have a bunch of stuff planned!" and then nothing happens.

GlimmeringMaggit

Maybe they've decided on an album release? I don't know.

The difference with Team Sleep is that we know Crosses have actually recorded. There's plenty of material there, it's just when and how they release it.

I think we know what changed now lol..

My best and only guess is they are waiting for Chino to finish the Deftones tour so they can plan their next release more. Maybe they want to shoot more videos?

Shaun is on the newest Change in the House of Flies Podcast. I haven't listened in full yet but he talks about Crosses along with SNW and Eros. Maybe there's some news there on what's happening.

GlimmeringMaggit

I heard it yesterday. Really good listen although I too had been hoping he'd say something on future Crosses plans lol.

The last ten minutes of the pod  ;)

Yeahhh I figured we were only hearing one (inaccurate) side of the story.

I don't know whether or not Sergio's side of it was strictly "inaccurate" but the way a story's framed can change the way you see the basic facts of a situation.  It always seemed weird to me that so many people got genuinely angry about it and never considered the idea that something like Chino's "outta pocket" comment might suggest that there was a bit more to the situation.

That's the internet in general, once a narrative catches steam it's pretty much impossible to stop it. Sergio just timed it right, he saw Chino's offhand comment and laid out his side of the story knowing they wouldn't respond. He was also lucky that most of the redditors and internet commenters have no clue what "outta pocket" means lol. But, fortunately for Chino, he is so beloved by this community that it won't ultimately leave a scratch. He's the face of Deftones and Crosses and his other bands and it's hard to defeat pure star power. Shit, "outta pocket" is pretty much a meme in the Deftones fandom now and something Chino could use to his advantage as stage banter for future shows or something.

Shaun is obviously going to be on Chino and Deftones' side because Chino is his boy but one thing I think he is absolutely right about is Sergio bringing Chi into the whole situation. That was really lame of him and I thought he was a little classier than that but I guess I was wrong.

GlimmeringMaggit

When did Sergio mention Chi and the Fender bass thing?

Not sure, but maybe in the interview where he claimed Chino asked him to replace Chi in the 90's.
