Does anyone else hear a distinct similarity in the riffs of Rocket Skates (verse) and "Hole in the Earth" (opening riff)?

Stephen begins the verse of "Rocket Skates" (0:10) with seven punchy quarter notes with the last one extending:
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Likewise, Hole in the Earth opens with four punchy quarter notes with the last one extending again.

I love "Rocket Skates" but damn the similarity is jarring.  I think the opening/chorus riff is one of Steph's sickest though!

[EDIT: I cannot get youtube embedding to work for some reason.  Has this been disabled?  I put the youtube code (after the "v=") b/w the forum's youtube brackets, and it looks fine in preview, but it's not posting).]

I realized the same today when I was travelling by bus. Plus, that part of the riff on both songs  goes on block with Abe's part. Kind of a new deftones signature, I guess.

@ mandalay:
you only need to paste the link as it is, no need to put only the part after the "v="

If Rocket Skates is equal to Hole in the Earth, we have the best album in the world coming up.

:|... HITE a masterpiece? I think not... it's barely a good song at best...

"There's a hole in the earth, I'm out."
lather rinse repeat.

Have any of you heard this song live? It's terrible...

hole in the earth was a major disappointment when i first heard it. it's since grown on me and i really do enjoy the song but on the deftones scale of awesomeness it's not even close to the top.

Corleone

Hole in the earth sounds like deftones trying to sell out, and failing bad.

wither-I

the only aspect of it i dont like are the lyrics. pretty gay

"coming into the nearness of distance"

deftonesfan192

mr.sinister
