yeah, i liked it. i didn´t necessarily love it like i thought i would. i´ve seen a fair amount of disturbing films (salo, black sun 731, the guinea pig movies etc.) so i was prepared for some of the imagery, and i like the shock value - i mean c'mon, the world is not fucking sunshine and rainbows, and i think the cinema should represent that every once in a while.  the photography was great, the acting was great. my only problem is that i can see how some find this film is too dense...maybe it dangles too far over the edge of creating art for art's sake and leaves uneducated viewers lost.

but fuck it, i consider myself a film snob and i like films that artsy and pretentious so this was right up my ally.

what did you think, dude?

edit: back to the topic:

best:
the hangover
moon
sunshine cleaning
i love you, man

bad:
public enemies

worst:
mostly everything else

actually, this was a pretty terrible year for movies so far. hopefully the oscar worthy flix will make up for it. sounds like nine is going to be great.

I must say I was pretty blown away by it.

When I sat down in my seat in the theatre I was prepared for the most sickening movie ever, but I got a lot more than just violence. I mean, it's not even that violent, but when the violence hits it hits you like a ten ton hammer. I was certainly crinching. But I loved that it just wasn't shown for the sake of showing violence. It had a purpose to the plot. I'd almost call it "emotional violence". Sick stuff, but brilliantly executed.

I'm not even a big Von Trier fan, but this is certainly on my top list of horror this decade (and top list of movies in general).

I understand why some people would hate it. I just really enjoyed for, to sound totally pretentious, the piece of ART it was. I'm glad every movie out there is not like this, but in a time of Saw sequels and remakes, this was definitely a breath of fresh air.

I want to see it, and I don't want to see it. I love 8 1/2, and you really can't go wrong with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Day-Lewis. I guess I'm concerned if watching a musical version of it will ruin Fellini's classic for me (I'm not fond of musicals  :-\)

fuck yes, man. I don't get how nobody really gave it any respect back in August. But now everyone I know that's seen it (all on dvd, they didnt see it in theaters) loves it. Plus, it's even on Roger Ebert's top 10 list.

I'm curious, why would you willfully subject yourself to torture like that?
