Apparently that's the case.

Slipknot have begun to map out new shows following the cancellation of their previous tour plans as a result of band drummer Joey Jordison suffering a burst appendix. The new dates, which now feature Deftones as support, run as follows:
October 10th Auburn, WA - White River Amphitheatre
October 11th Kennewick, WA - Toyota Center
October 13th Portland, OR - Portland Memorial Coliseum
October 15th Vancouver, BC - Pacific Coliseum
October 16th Victoria, BC - Save On Foods Centre
October 18th Edmonton, AB - Shaw Conference Center
October 20th Calgary, AB - Calgary Corral
October 21st Spokane, WA - Star Theater
October 23rd San Jose, CA - San Jose University @ Event Center
October 24th Devore, CA - San Manuel Amphitheater ("SmokeOut Festival")

well according to the PRP it is

FUCK ME

THE WORLD HAS ENDED

Inkblades

I thought they were a big enough band that they didn't have to open for anybody.

Vesanic

Let's admit something.

From all the " big " bands, Deftones are probably the less known.

Inkblades

They might be less known than Slipknot, but that means nothing. Their music is better.

It's just funny that they always talk about "we've tried to distance ourselves from nu-metal" and then look who they are open for.

Vesanic

It's not because you support a nu-metal band tour that you will do nu-metal music.

defskull

Well yeah doesn't mean they can't be friends with the guys.  I mean one or two of them showed up for that tribute song, right?  It's possible some of the members of Deftones are pals with some members of Slipknot.  Plus it seems like Slipknot has respect for Deftones and they wouldn't mind having them on tour with them and Deftones probably wouldn't mind the shows.

I mean if I lived in any of those cities (or near by) I'd be very happy to see Deftones are playing a show, regardless of who plays with them (although sitting through Deadsy was pretty bad).

Inkblades

I'm not saying they will. But if you're trying to distance yourself from that scene why would you open for a band that is a part of it?

It's not that I have that big of a problem with it. Their touring, and that's all that really matters.

Starz

Yeah exactly. Right now I don't think they give a fuck who they play with, they just wanna get out there and play some shows, let off some steam! Then get back to releasing some new music because as Chino said, 'that shit is stomping!'

I, for one, think that when they say " We wanted to take distance from the nu-metal thing ", they mean that in the musical point. Look, White Pony was far from Nu-Metal, right ? But Linkin Park were opening for them.

defskull

I highly doubt they care that much about the label today.  Does anyone still throw around the term nu-metal these days?

Guess who books their shows.. Velvet Hammer/WBM... Yep, not their choice. Quite the high horse you're sitting on.

I will go, and immediately leave after the Deftones play.

A few things...

1.) Slipknot is bigger than the Deftones. Slipknot can headline arenas on its own.  As much as we love Deftones, let's be realistic - it's hard for them to draw over 2000 people throughout the US (excluding LA, Sac, NYC, etc).  Deftones are not middle-America music. Slipknot is, hence their bigger draw.

2.) No one cares about distancing the band from nu-metal anymore.  Nu-metals dead, the scene is over - almost ten years ago.  Hell, the Deftones co-headlined Family Values with Korn in 2006.  Nothing new going on.  Let it go.

3.)  At least they're not opening for Daughtry, Creed, Nickelback, or any other truly deplorable "rock" act.  Slipknot does have talent, despite their ostentatious presence.  Love or hate the music, they put on a killer live show, and I think their audience will welcome the Deftones.

4.)  Sharinglungs...VH/WMG does NOT book their shows!  Their agent books their shows, of course, and that would be CAA.  Welcome to the music industry.
