Weird question.... Carpet related

This is something I've wondered about from time to time for a while...
Why do Deftones have those carpets on the stage? Like Persian rugs or something...
?
Any deep symbolic/metaphorical meaning, or is it to not slip, or to add that homely feeling to the stage - ? Or has it anything to do with the sound??
There's probably a really obvious answer to this..

they're for drumstick protection. if Abe looses his stick during a song, the carpet absorbs most of the fall. So he can use it again later.

A lot of bands use rugs like that; on stage and in the studio.  I think it's just for looks.

that and if theres no carpets on a floor, the kick drum will slide away from the rest of the set fairly quickly.

yep. its for the equipment. and the stage can get slippery for them with all the sweat and spit, bad accidents coulld occur

You got your answers there apart from the sound, it can help just a bit but not really on a live setting.

Lalz. you don't need a persian rug to prevent that from happening. There's way simpler mats that do the job, and are made to do so.

On a more serious note though, they probably use it for the same reasons we put them in our livingroom, it looks good and it's more comfortable than just bare floor.

Okay, cool! Thanks for replying/explaining  :)

I think each of the rugs has a design on it that best represents that persons personality.

Because they're Genies and they have come to grant you wishes.

Remember Aladdin? Fuck Robin Williams, that was Stef.

It just isn't cool to be playing in a metal band and doing Disney shit on the side for Gs. They just lie and say 'That... that was Robin Williams'.

'A whole new world, for me and you
Two different needles, same kind of thread.'

Abe was the monkey.

Sugartolove

Well I'm glad you cleared that up for me!  :)
I wish they had come to grant me wishes, and I know just which one I'd make too. Dammit.

I read a quote from famous guitarist Steve Vai claiming...in his case,  that having persian rugs onstage takes him into a "comfort zone"...

a sense of familiarity in a venue he hasnt played before..no matter where on tour he might be, he has those rugs onstage that he brings from home and it gives his mind a sense of  "comfort" and takes him into a familiar "comfort zone" of relaxation...

PERHAPS...the guys in Deftones caught onto this and feel it works for them too...playing a shitty venue, where nothing really feels like it has a "vibe"...just bring the same rugs that you've had at home that has joint burns on it and stuff...and it makes the stage feel like your house or something...??
