I know but when I say " back in the old days " I talk about random gigs from these days. I've got some examples here in my collection but i'm already uploading tons of stuff for the download thread.

You should search the spaceland show here on SL, it's somewhere, I'm almost sure.

If not, then I'll re-upload it.

And I don't think it's " yeaaaah summeeeer " on the origina track, but a longer " yeah ", that's all. But I'm not sure.

And I know, Chino was offkey, but I think he was high as hell this day. I might be wrong.

nah it's funny, that everyone goes like chino was way better back then..it's just not true, listen to the root from bamboozle...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py7twVxpBC8&feature=related

more control, technique, clearer and he's listening to the notes better... people just think he sang so much better back then because he was fucking up the stage...visual you know..his movement and actions made it more intense than it actually was..

I don't agree, dude. Not that I want to get a " fight " but I don't think you're objective.

For example, Chino could do " living in me's SOOO poooor ", you know, this pretty high note on the " sooo " ? He doesn't pull it out very well at Bamboozle, which he does like a master at Bizarre 98, although you're right, he's more into his voice than jumping like a monkey everywhere forgetting what's he's paid for.

And also something else, on the screamings point... I'm listening to a 96's show I'm about to drop on the download thread and damn, he could REALLY scream back then. Now, he mostly does high pitched shreeky inhales.

dude do you sing like that for 2.5hours a day 5 days a week??? I played with people that DID (yeah they can't anymore)... chino had a breakdown with his voice. I think that you'll be more careful after that...

Listen to the screaming after the bridge in WGTB @ Pinkpop 2006.. or the screaming part in nosebleed @ Family Values.

Speaking about FV, the screaming in nosebleed almost turns in to statter at a certain point.. he can scream like he did, he's just careful. He knows his voice is his income and he can't fuck it up (+ i don't think he's all that mad anymore)

oh and you shouldn't listen to those on youtube, crappy audio.. i'm pumpin it from the tv-recording on a big ass kenwood amp with a nice 16band EQ ^^

Dude I didn't say it was not normal his screamings got weaker, it's just to make you realize.

But to be honnest, I'm sure he can't screaming as good as before. Just listen to 7 Words at Bamboozle, it's pretty awful.

And screaming on WGTB at PinkPop is a high pitched inhale, REALLY easy to do once you know the way.

Uhm... you didn't really read what i said did you?...he's just conserving his voice, he's matured and sobered up.. (screaming full on your glottis is easier when you're intoxicated...)

And i dindn't mean that inhale, i was doing that 10 years ago (so i know what it is..for chino just another trick to conserve his voice ;) ).. i mean the part after that... the interlude, inhale and then....... DON"T SPEAK , DON'T SAY NOTHING.. (always funny when you write it down, makes me think of nodoubt)..

The screaming on headup (2nd or 3rd verse) of the same show is soooooo brutal feels like the earth is trembling.. and still nosebleed check out the pitch of that.

(oh and i know the rest of that headup is crappy, bad stamina)

Sorry, I wrote it wrong. I meant " I'm not sure he CAN scream as good as before ".

Yeah, he can sometimes pull out some good screamings, but not as much and as tight as before, to my ears anyway.

he still does, but the moments are sparse (like the family values nosebleed I WILL COME...that's the sickest screaming i've ever heard from anyone)..

like i said try screaming after 3-4 beers goes easier...chino drinks 10 he starts to scream insane, but his singing is slurred and offkey. Like the one u just upped, again the high note was ...

+ like i said he's a bit more mature and knows what the consequenses can be.. I'd rather have him singing better then screaming insane (like 2003era) but not being able to sing one decent note.

unowutimean?

You're right, it was offkey too. But I still think he could sing better in the old days. The skills were there, but he didn't focus enough on these.

cat screams, eagle screams, piggy screams.. man that dude can sound like any animal out there.

and debating weather or not chino's voice was better before or not is a total waste of time.anyone with functional ears can hear his voice was damaged for eternity after late 2000/beginning of 2001

True.

Although he had some good times in 2003.

No More Sugar

Of course his screaming voice was better 10 years ago... at least then he could hold a fucking scream. he'll never be able to duplicate himself. and he'll never get it back, so he's stuck doing pig squeals. all his screams up until when they started playing self titled tracks were pretty damn good.

and yeah, there's a video him performing hexagram at pinkpop i think it was in 2003, and that has some decent vocals. but his singing voice was 100% better 10-15 years ago, even jumping around on stage.

Vesanic

Nah, Hexagram at PinkPop 2003 was amazing... Until the second verse.  ::)

No More Sugar

yeah lol i meant the first verse

You should checl out Bloody Cape at Download Festival 2003. The audio show is in the download thread, in my list. The screaming part is totally badass.

defTHE1s

I dunno if i'm right, but maybe also he can't reach the notes because of the weight he has gained since 2003 to late 2008.... you know, trying to hit high notes and be on constant movement onstage, a fat man gets too fucking tired doing that!!!
and now he's a lil' thin again, he can do those high notes again... but really dunno if that's a good point to explain...
so don't get me wrong...

Yes yes, Deftones, yes yes, heavy metal, yes yes, nü metal, yes yes, fucking queer, yes yes...

Def. Agree with that. Can't go wrong with Bloody Cape, it's like the Deftones Secret weapon imo (if he can even perform it well) hahaha

@defTHE1s - That's also a very good possibility for Chino as an individual, however I don't think weight has much to do with your vocal chords, it just has more to do with your lung power, and how much air you can put out while keeping control. (as well as the factors of his stage presence like you said)
