Enlighten me, not really a musician myself and I know that "mics" are essential to the recording process but is it really a Nick R. thing to have so many going on around Abe as it was sorta new to me during DE process when I heard Abe say "lotsa mics". ??? It looks ridiculous and keep in mind this is a genuine, kinda naive question in a way. I have no idea how a kit should be miked if there is even a standard but it seems ridiculous just judging by the photo. Abes drums didn't really "pop out" at me on DE contrary to what I expected after reading and hearing about it. Not saying he didn't sound clear, crisp and on point as usual (outstanding)........ Terry didn't do it like this, did he? or could it be with the times as far as this being the new norm for this process when bands record? Fuck the funny shit, this is something I would appreciate some good, positive input on. Thanx in advance.... ??? ??? :)

The reason for so many overheads is to have options for the song/recording. Each mic set (left and right in stereo) records differently and thus sounds different. So they're just keeping their options open. But from really looking at the picture, all 4 mics are the same brand and possibly the same model... so it could be more about the axis and position

Related Topic: Steve Albini (recorded Nirvana's In Utero) is NOTORIOUS for micing drums, guitars, and rooms with a shit ton of mics. I'm talking like 2-4 mics on a bass drum and guitar cabinet alone. Not an uncommon practice to use lots of mics like some have pointed out.

Onwards... I'm digging the picture updates from the studio. Like I said it's cool to see and know there is progress going on with the new album. Also I like seeing studios and how the producer records/works with the band, as each producer is different.

But I'd like to see something more tangible. Like how they kept us updated during Eros and the Self Titled recordings. CLIPS MOTHERFUCKERS! Or it didn't happen!!! Hahahaha :P

sure...but to me (and i know i'm alone on this) it would be perfectly fine with them just mentioning the moving with words.. "we're off to the studio" - end of message. i wouldn't be like "ok you SAY you're moving your shit to the studio... but i kinda doubt it.. i need proof and demand a picture of a room full of boxes to REALLY believe it". the over use of dumb nonsense pictures from sergio before, kinda get these new pictures of boxes and cables dragged down to same meaningless lame level. i like pictures and check out whatever is posted, but cmon at least post pictures of the band jamming or somehting.
i know i'm alone on this too, but i really don't want to hear anything til it's final, i want to hear the demos after it's released...i want the new stuff t be fresh as daisy's first time i hear it. but i couldn't ever help myself from listening to anything released if they put something out

I believe there have been pictures of the band jamming, or at least some of them standing around with guitars strapped around 'em haha. But I also see what you mean by the abundance of seemingly "random" pictures. Dude's just having fun with a camera phone while sitting around killing time, because the process can get pretty boring. He just happens to be in a band where the pictures are of interest. If I took the same pictures and posted 'em people would think I'm a retard with no life...

I can also understand and respect not wanting to hear anything until you've heard a final product. I'm a nerd though, I like hearing the progress of such things from conception to final. It's an interesting matter, as I like to analyze and see what makes the cut and what doesn't. But it's a double edged sword as you may like something that gets cut.

i don't know, some seem to be shot in an artsy way, much more pretentious than randomly taking them in a bored way.anyway-  about hearing clips ...I'm just afraid I will listen and enjoy a riff that's released from the studio, but then be bummed out that it didn't make the cut or got changed in the wrong direction.shit like that sticks with you for an eternity... like when they released steph's feiticiera riff from the studio when wp was recorded - played in studio, it was much slower and had a dirty sound to it, it sounded awesome. later on album - they had sped up the tempo and it sounded much poppier and became a totally different song than i thought it was gonna be. I like the song today but was disappointed with that change. but yes, it can go the other way too, a song that does not seem to be much, but change for the better. all i'm saying is that the nerdy "i want it all" could let you down, it's like a curse

Shadow46/2

Do you have a link to this feiticiera demo?

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

i have it on my old computer but not a link to it,i'm sure someone here can give you a link. it was called "new song" and was about 20 seconds long.. maybe stressful to search for it with a name like that but it's not an extreme rarity or anything.

and it's not a full blown demo, just steph, abe and chi. i remember you could hear a door open and and you could
hear that the sound got louder like the one taping the jam was walking around with a recorder, from a room to another where they guys where.a lot of ppl probably know what clip i'm talking about and the thing is not that it fantastic enough to be on a record, i was trying to prove a point.. that when i got a little bit a music like that, i tend to play it over, and over and over and start fantasizing of what the song will be like.. and hardly ever does the actul song become what you make up in your head after so many spins. when i say it sounded awesome, it was an awesome groove to me.it sounded raw and dirty

Good idea about hearing demos AFTER hearing the record fresh. I agree and I couldn't help myself either if something surfaced before hand myself. Don't think I ever thought of that..... but, I did hear SNW demos after SNW dropped. The demos came after right? Can't remember.

Thx dude. Not sped up, not changed it at all.. it's the same riff at the same tempo, same drums.. just a lot of hiss and room-sound in it..
And somewhere, There's someone who cares. With a heart of gold, To have and to hold.

ah newSHIT it was - not song. maybe the album version isn't that much faster, but it sure sounds more alert on wp..maybe it's because chino sings a happy melody. the clip got a more sludgy raw vibe, sounds cooler to me.. it's like the clip is written during drugged out on hasch while feiticeira is played on coke.i personally get a different feeling from hearing the two, but it could be chino's melody..sounds happier on wp

Yes, the demos came after SNW came out but someone (Nuno) had all the demos before the album even came out. Snippets were released and the full demo of Xerces was also released prior to SNW dropping in stores
