If Sergio is worth his salt, he could play what Chi wrote for Eros, and have his input in writing on other stuff for the next album.

They have a lot of songs to choose from.. they're probably gonna take a mix of Chi songs and Sergio songs.. thats just how its gonna be..

Abe himself said they've never had so much to choose from.. for the EROS album.

Lol, okay, than a double album it is, . A kind of juxtaposition piece, one disk with Chi, and another with Sergio. Maybe this is just hitting me hard because I didn't realize Sergio was ever intended to be a help in writing new material, I thought he was exclusively a tour replacement.

Correct. I think that he'll probably to touch ups on what they put on Eros as well, if Chi hasn't woken up by that time in the recording process.

Oh I thought they WERE RECORDING more songs.

Well this is why I don't get excited for albums when they take forever, and I'm not excited for this one because of Chi and it's going to be different, so when it comes out it comes out.

You know, after the fact that Abe said they recorded more songs with Sergio and all.

Sharinglungs, don't take it so personally, a lot of people are just in a state of shock/denial that they're already writing with someone who's not Chi. This was very unexpected and hard to swallow, I know it is for me. It's all too sudden, and despite Abe saying that the reason they're considering other songs for Eros because they're not counting Chi out, it undeniably feels at least somewhat...I guess the word is wrong. Anyways, I know the Deftones have creative control over their own music, and I trust their decisions, and I'm not at all afraid the album will be bad--there is just something off-putting about the idea of not having the record Chi put his heart into before the wreck.

I bet you anything they recorded with Sergio (if they are) will be CONSIDERED for Eros.  If not the above, i think it would be a mix of tracks with both bassists. However, obviously 10 years ago Sergio filled in for Chi on tour, I'm almost certain that's all he's doing this time, out of respect.
