Well, he's actually suffering to get to some high notes, and it hurts his throat. A singer without proper singing technique may sing from the heart, but in the long run will deteriorate his vocal chords.

Surpised? No. It's just listening to a streaming Deftones show is better than having someone describe what happened at that show. I mean, if it's not being streamed, fine. He could be flat out wrong. But if it is being streamed, I'm definitely gonna try to find out where.
