i'm glad they havent broken up the band(yet anyway), i know Chi wouldnt want them working at McDonalds. he'd want them to keep playing. i dont know if this will lead to the end of deftones(if Chi doesnt wake up, or cant get back to normal), but i hope it doesnt. it would never be the same without CHI, but they could still make great music

I don't feel right. This news is unsettling. I don't feel like Deftones should 'go on' until Chi is better.

Life goes on. Their musicians, this is what they do. Who knows what his outcome will be. Just gotta hope and pray for the best, but in the meantime the guys gotta do what they gotta do.

dude, the reality is fuct really, I dont know how many of you have researched coma's, but it's not good man, don't get me wrong, I want Chi back, but it may be longer then we think, then again, he can just snap out of it too, ohh man, feelings.... nothing more then feeeeee'ee'lins

As i said in Chi's prayer thread, hopefully Chi will be better by that time...
I'm really hoping to see him awake before that show!
great news

He will not be able to play if he wakes up in time. His muscles will need a lot of work, a lot of physical rehab.

I think the reason I'm on the fence is simply because 'its too soon' - it's like remarrying a few months later after your wife went into coma. I realize this is different, but it just feels unnatural and forced. I don't even know how I'll be able to enjoy it because all I'll be thinking about is Chi. I realize from a business stand point, they need this to survive...and from a label standpoint, they probably need this to push the new record. but the truth is one of their band mates is in serious condition and it just seems weird to 'go out and have fun and play a gig' without him. This isn't a broken hand, this is life/death.

i understand something like this would happen soon or later but i also feel this is way to soon.i dont know about if they do something like this to "keep their minds occupied", playing a show without seeing chi there would be the biggest painful reminder there is. this has got to be pure business, not a deftones decision

Jacob

what's up with everyone first whining about how the new album might not come out when expected then get all butthurt when the band announces they will move on for now?
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

jesusinabowlofdirt

move on as a band finishing the record is one thing, move on as a band and playing shows without chi so damn soon is another.
at the same time they got to promote the record, but it just feels ugly, more head than heart behind it all. like everyone says, its mixed emotions. not easy

You guys need to remember that this is in fact a job for the deftones. They need to make money from this for their families which Chi would have no objections against.

haha, this is kinda what I was gonna say, but you beat me to it.

bands make money playing shows.  with the economy and such, they have to get out there to make some bank [they still draw a good crowd, so they're alright in that reguard].  I don't wanna say it, but Chi could be in a coma for YEARS.  The band must move on, espeacially if Chi would want it so.

Jesus2Chino

They should have all the people at the show chant for Chi to bring him a lot of positive energy. I'm sure he'd appreciate a video of it once he wakes up, a huge crowd missing him and wanting him to get better and out of that bed.

Although obviously we all feel for Chi, I think this is a very positive move forward.

Depending on what happens in the next few months, the bassist for this show could act as a 'touring' bassist and then when Chi wakes up and recovers, he can get back into the swing of things!

It's an awful position to be in, but they can't all just sit around with an album finished and ready to promote and do nothing. Surely it's better that they try and continue and hope Chi joins them as soon as he can, rather than go on a (kinda) forced hiatus that could be indefinite with no future.

I hope Chi will wake soon, but at least this way we might be able to continue seeing/hearing new things from deftones!

as long as chi is in a coma its kinda wrong to say this is "a very positive move forward". but its an "okey" step forward i guess..

Yeah, I know that he will need rehab after wake up, and if he's awake  prob he won't be playing; what I'm saying is that it would be great (and I'm expecting it to be true) that by the time they were on that show, Chi would be awake, not playing but alive and recovering...
...
and maybe seeing them (his bandmates) playing a show in his honor!  :)

Yes yes, Deftones, yes yes, heavy metal, yes yes, nü metal, yes yes, fucking queer, yes yes...

whodunit?
