Mac Lethal will be there as well.  Haha awesome.

This is really sad/awesome news.

I'm sure Chi would want this though.

I don't feel right. This news is unsettling. I don't feel like Deftones should 'go on' until Chi is better.

Conflicted................. Very sad about Chi, but I would do ANYTHING (virtually) to be there............ ARGH I seriously need to move to America.
But Deftones without Chi.... Have they given up on him!?  :-\

Confirmed: Deftones will be appearing at Bamboozle Left, April 5th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA.  Tickets are on-sale at 10am this Saturday at thebamboozle.com.

With the announcement of our appearance on Bamboozle, we felt like its time to address some things.

First, Chi.
Our fallen comrade has not made significant progress as of late, but continues to fight on from his accident.  Doctors are working feverishly to return our brother to us, and we continue to hold out hope and faith that Chi returns to the life he has waiting for him and can join us on stage once again.

For everyone that knows Chi, knows that he never wanted down time.  Chialways wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage at Bamboozle in April.  Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we're keeping his legacy alive.

Back in 1999, Chi had to leave the band for a brief moment and our closefriend Sergio Vega filled in to keep the train moving.  10 years later, Sergio is going to step in once again while Chi is down.  Sergio is family to us, and had received Chi's blessing before, so without a doubt we know that if Chi could tell us now, he would give us his blessing again.

In the meantime, we continue work on our record, and as for Bamboozle, we felt like we needed to poke our heads up for a quick breath before we buckle down and get this record finished... So we'll see you all in Irvine.

Hmmm..I remember seeing deftones back in '97 or '98 (I swear it was before 1999 like the blog said) when Chi had a broken foot.  Sergio filled in for him then too.  I think he used to play bass for Quicksand.

Interesting that the album isn't finished either, which of course conflicts what Frank said in that interview.  I wonder how much Chi's accident will affect the record, now that we know they are still working on it.

Very sad to learn that Chi's condition doesn't seem to be improving.  Really hoping he will recover, and return to his normal self.

aj

incredibly, incredibly sad news.

Some will say " It's okay, that's what Chi would have wanted ", and some will feel like they've been stabbed in the back.

In my case, considering that that's what Chi would have done, I see it in a good way.

yea dude, but it's like, the magik of the tones man, i know corny, but it's true, these guys are bro's... bro's b4 hoes

of course chi wold be cool with it. he is very spiritual and wise and would only want the best for his loved one's and homies.

im glad for the rest of the band. this is wat they do, for life! music is EVERYTHING to these guys and taking that from them would tear them apart even moreso than the pain that has already been inflicted...

like I said in the Chi prayer thread, maybe they push on to keep their minds occupied, you know? maybe it'd be too much to just quit for now and not knowing what the future holds for the band,
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

I'm kinda sitting on the fence like everyone else but no matter what, this gig's gonna ba a great tribute to Chi.

BLUMPKIN

i'm going to look at this positively.  for one, i'm sure Chi would not want the band to quit playing just because he can't join them, i think that's a genuine assumption from the band and not just lip service.

i also think that it's reasonable to remain optimistic about Chi's condition.  if they felt Chi was a lost cause, i can't imagine that lining up shows would even be a thought in their heads right now.  i truly believe that these actions by the band demonstrates that they still have good reason to be hopeful, and so should we.

under no circumstance has the band "given up on him" as a previous poster asked, i can't see that happening already, not with these mofo's

I hope he awakes by that time too, but up on stage...nah, I don't think so.
