Paul Wall and Mike jones stuff is dope as screwed and chopped, specifically Sittin Sidewayz. Did screwed and chopped mixes originate in texas based hip hop, or did texas just make it popular?

I'm pretty sure it started in Texas with the likes of DJ Screw. 

And I really like chopped and screwed music.  A friend of mine from high school is really into it so I've listened to it with him before.  Good shit.
