Chi,

I smell horribly bad right now. I've had this Deftones t-shirt on ever since I heard of your accident and yesterday me and a friend moved into a new apartment so we carried furtiture and stuff for about 4 hours. I'm still wearing the same shirt. and I'm not gonna take it off until you recover.

Deftones has become one of the most important bands for me and not one single day goes by without me thinking of your music. I have huge amounts of respect for you as a musician and as a person. and I think what you believe in and stand for are honorable things that inspire hundreds if not thousands of people. simply put, the world needs you and we're all here to welcome you back when you're ready. stay strong and get well, Chi. I know you're gonna be back on stage with more energy than ever.

oh, and thank Abe for teaching me how to play drums through your songs!

greetings,

Hey Chi, I'm gonna write this cuz I know you'll be able to read these letters we're writing to you -maybe you'll be tired to read mine- but at least you'll read some, that just makes me happy.

Knowing your situation makes us more fan than we are, being with you guys (the band, family and friends) together in a pray makes this whole Deftones situation a thing more united than ever, and it will be like that after your recovery, that's the good thing that will come up about this accident. Good things can come from bad things, that's why I think.

I'm sure -and so do a lot of people- you'll be someday back onstage screaming and breaking those fucking strings again. You, along with the guys have been an inspiration to all of us through all these years, eventhough I don't even play a shit, it's just an inspiration you've given me... That's something so hard to give back to you, cuz the thing you do is so awesome and it's just a feeling so hard to explain.

You know you have us, and we know we have you. It was good to see you for the first time last year, I'm sure I'll see you again soon. Youdaman.

chi 11/9/08

The critical 72 hours has passed and his condition is stable. His doc is expecting a recovery but want to continue to sedate him and keep him quiet, he was trying to fight even in his coma. His mother and son have asked that I pass this information on as well...

In the past when chi was not on tour he would gather a few instruments together once a week and meet the homeless kids in the park to play music with them. Today we ask you to give a homeless person a blanket, some warm clothes or some food. If you don't see a homeless person, reach out to a child near or far, and show some kindness to them. keep sending your good thoughts and prayers, they are keeping him with us and he is improving daily.

Chi,

I don't usually do this kinda thing but I kinda feel the need to say something. The first time I ever saw the Deftones live was back in '03. I'd been a fan for a while before but this was the first time I'd actually seen you guys play. I'm in the UK and the show was in London. I remember waiting for you guys to arrive at the gate along with a bunch of other fans. Eventually, after the bus turned up you came over and talked with us for a while. It was surreal as fuck man and really fucking cool to meet you, you know? The show was awesome and it was a great fucking day.

I've met the other guys a few times along with yourself again since. You've probably always been the nicest guy, the one who always seems the happiest to take a little time to speak to the fans. You're the bass player in my favourite band, you know? You're a fucking hero of mine. So to meet you in person and stuff has been fucking cool. I got you guys tattooed on my arm man, you're a real important part of my life.

It was a shock to hear about your accident. The other guys have been kind enough to keep us updated every now and again on your progress. I never pray.. I've never been that kind of person really. I must have attempted it a handful of times in my life. But the other day I kind of tried it in an attempt to help you get better man.

When you wake up and get healthy again you can read all these things people have said and really know how important you are to us. It's funny because I don't know you at all.. And yet I feel as though I know you so well because of the way your music has moved me for all these years. I've grown up with you guys in the background.

Get better soon man. We all love you.

So does that mean he's out of the coma but they're just sedating him???

And really, how fuckin often do you hear about people in bands as big as Deftones doing that for people, huh.

Infact when do you really hear about it ever? :/

Chi Cheng is fucking awesome.

White Wrist

so...i guess that the coma is controlled? if that is true, this is good news.

I'm wondering why they want to keep him sedated.

Hidalgo

i really appreciate that they update us everyday. i still dont fully understand what sorta condition he's in, i wish they could explain it further, but i'm just glad they're cool enough to take the time to update us. during such a major ordeal it would be easy to not think about updating the fans. so many of us are worried it's cool to see an update every day

i kill for fun

so why did they stop updating the official site and now just the mysapce page? I can never pull the shit up on myspace

Hello Everyone,

I just had the pleasure of speaking with Chi's mother. She, as well as the entire Cheng family, would again like to thank you for all your love and support and knows God is healing Chi because of your prayers, love and good work.

This Sunday saw the first signs of your prayers in action. Chi was able to hear and respond to his father's request to move his lower lip. His father also administered a tendon reflex test, of which both legs responded with movement. Doctors continue to remain optimistic, and the energy at the hospital remains very positive.

The family would also like to send a special thank you out to the three off duty EMTs that stopped shortly after the accident and saved Chi's life. It was by the Grace of God that these three individuals happened to be traveling on the road with medical gear in tow at the time of the accident. If not for them, the chances of Chi making to the hospital alive would have been poor.

Please, keep your prayers, thoughts, and love coming!

Thank you for the updates!

I have had Chi in my thoughts and prayers since I heard of the news!  :-\

While out for a drive today, I said a prayer for him while holding the rosary beads hanging off my car mirror!

That may sound corny, but they belonged to my late grandfather and I see them as a protection, as if he is watching over me while driving.
Get well soon BROTHER! May god be with you!

Sometimes a coma is induced by doctors. This is to keep the brain from working too much. It controls swelling, relieves pressure, and helps in healing.

You never buckle?

Damn that's really really stupid....!

And that's just so odd to hear that if these 3 people wouldn't have been there he might be dead - cruel. But I'm so happy to hear that he is doing fine so far!
