Yeah, that's just how mine was. I was like "Chi man, when did this happen!?" And he was like "Yeah, just today," like it was no big deal. It was very weird, he was playing his bass and getting ready for the stage again. Did you have this dream last night as well--that would be erie.

Much respect,
-Matt

hey guys,

thanks for all the love and support for chi. it is appreciated.

i don't put anything past this man as far as what he will or won't be able to do. he is working hard. just this morning i told him "you know everyday moment by moment you are getting better and better?" and he answered me... "ya".

i'll be blogging later to let you all know how today goes.

he's making noises now so i am going to go see what he has to say...

one love for chi,
gina

I go back and forth in regards to giving up faith on this situation, and reading this really helped me keep the faith. chills and tears over here.

How old is Chi's son? I wasn't aware he had any children.
I think about Chi all the time.
I met him only once, the day after White Pony was released, at a record signing at Tower Records in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, when i was 16 years old. (I'll have to find the pic and post it)
They had played on Letterman the night before, and were going to play that night at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia(right over the bridge from my town, Cherry Hill)
I had a ticket to the show, and had bought White Pony the day before. I listened to it all day. : )
I got REALLY lucky, because my uncle was a vice president of Tower Records (by coincidence lived in Sacramento at the time as well), and my Mom worked at the Cherry Hill store!
I knew about the signing in advance, and even though my Mom was going to be out of town that day, she set it up so that i could be in the store when the gang arrived, and hang out in the backroom when they were back there as well, instead of waiting in line just to get something signed(which i would've done anyway).
I was SO excited, not only did i have this amazing album in my hands, but i was going to see THE DEFTONES play live that night for the very FIRST time, AND i got to MEET THEM too!!!
As the line of fans stretched around the store waited outside, i stood next to the table set up for the group as they walked in through the back door.
I was extremely nervous, but greeted them as they passed me, saying hello and shaking their hands. I didn't want to act like a brat with special treatment, so i kept it brief, just seeing my heroes up close was exciting enough for me. Everyone was polite, for the most part. Chino was quiet, Stef was running around getting into trouble, Frank looked stoned or hungover, Abe was super hyper, and Chi was extremely calm and polite. The crew sat down at the table, and there was a few minutes before the fans were let in where it was pretty much just me standing in front of them. It was awkward for me because i was pretty awestruck. The night before i had thought of a million things to say and ask them, but now the cat had my tongue!!!!  I didn't know what to do or say, and Chi must haved sensed my nervousness, and he said enthusiastically: "Hey man! How are you doing?" or something like that. It made me feel at ease, he spoke to me like an old friend. I said i was really excited for the concert later. He said he was too. He asked if i had heard White Pony yet, and i said i bought it the day before. He asked me what i thought of it, and seemed like he was genuinely curious. I told him that so far i loved it, and i didn't want to come off like a suckup, but i had to be honest and tell him that i love Adrenaline, and Around the Fur, that they are my favorite band, and that White Pony is just as great as those records, and they are all my favorite for different reasons. I told him i thought it had "it", whatever "it" is that makes their records so great and just thought it went together in a really cool way (i can think of so many other things to say now, of course!). He said that he really appreciated it, and looked at the others to see if they were listening, like he was nudging them to talk to me. Abe said "awesome" or "cool" in a hyper sort of way, Steph leaned back in his chair and slow nodded like he knew it was great (it was funny), and Chino pulled a smirk and gave me a nod. Chi turned his attention back to me and said it was cool to talk to me about the album because i was the first fan he had personally talked to that had heard the full record, since it was just released the day before, but they had been so busy that day. I don't know if it was true or not, but it could've been, and either way it just made me feel really nice and appreciated. I had brought my Adrenaline CD booklet, and he saw it and asked me if i wanted them to sign it. I said yeah thank you, and handed it to him. He signed it and handed it to the others. Then Chi asked if i had already bought my ticket to the show and i told him that i did, and he told me he would see me there....Again, he made me feel really welcome and special, like i was invited. It gave me just a little glimpse into the kind of person he must be, he treated me like a friend instead of just a fan, and i will never forget that day. After that i got to watch them goof around in the backroom after the signing (Stephan was stealing CD's, and brought in a drumming magazine with Abe on the cover to show everyone, saying "look at little Abe", or something like that.. Chino grabbed it and looked at it and said real loud: "Man, this ain't even fuckin' Modern Drummer!!!". They all had a good laugh and Abe made a face). That night i went to the concert, and they were incredible. Probably the best show i've ever seen, the only thing better being maybe one of the other times i saw them, but that night they played to perfection, you could just feel the raw energy and excitement that must have come with releasing White Pony. With Deftones, you feel like you are part of the show, there's nothing else like it. I went to see them everytime they came after that, the last time being in 2007 i think, the second time they came to Philly for Saturday Night Wrist. I was so saddened to learn of Chi's accident, it felt like hearing a friend was hurt. God bless the Deftones, they changed my life, and the super talented musician Chi Cheng, and the wonderful human being that he is. I (and we) continue to pray for him and his recovery. I hope Chi knows how much he touched this one person's life, and i'm sure the lives of many, many others. One love.
Sincerely,
Chas Edwards

Most definately. I would be honored. Thank you, and wow, his son is 13? Nice to hear the apple doesn't fall from the tree, my father was a musician, as am i, and it is beautiful when a father and son share passions.  Here's to the day they can reunite, so to speak. Thank you so much Gina, for all your support, not only to Chi but all of us in his "extended family", who keep him in our thoughts and prayers. Much love.

Chi isn't doing so good at the moment....  He has had lots of infections, as you all know. This time he has pneumonia again, and there are other problems as well. He is in ICU, if I'm not mistaken. He has fought this time and time again before, so I believe he will fight it again this time as well. He still needs our special attention right now though guys...  :(
Love you, Chi - Always.

Jacob

keep fighting, brother! my thoughts are with you.
