that riff was very basic. i thought he said he was gonna step outside the riff & try new new stuff/lead. nothing i've heard so far suggests anything new from him, just a low heavy 8 string sound is all that's new

I'm sorry, I'm REALLY not that impressed right now. People keep saying it's going to be "heavy as fuck", because he's using an 8 string. What they just played wasn't heavy, it sounded like SHIT.  Sure, the actual key/note will be low, but that's not what makes shit heavy. Go take a listen to Adrenaline, some of those songs are wonderfully heavy, but they written on 6 Strings. He needs to quit this ideal that adding more strings or tuning down as low as possible makes a song "heavy". Stef, you're not meshuggah, make YOUR music and quit trying to be something you're not.

I have to say, after listening to everything they've played so far, It's not looking good. I've been a fan of the band since 1994 when I got a demo tape from a friend in CA. But It's starting to show they're on a decline. Hopefully they can prove me wrong??

I actually rather agree with this. I'm hoping this album is amazing.. but nothing sounded good here.. a slow riff that would be really boring if not played through the wow factor of 8 strings.

Neither sharinglungs nor deftonesworld were I believe. Deftonesworld started in '01 i think. Sharinglungs was much later but had the old skool deftonesworld board before that.
