How BIG are the Deftones?

Think about it? Are they well known? What im trying to ask is, if you ask something that likes music will they know of the deftones?

I think it's a fair question b/c I think about it all the time...

I would say your average 20-30 year old has at least "heard" of the Deftones.  I'd also say they can't name a single song by the band, nor would they recognize their music.  On the slight possibility they are familiar w/ the Deftones' music, they either know Change and/or Back to School...or they know EVERYTHING by the Deftones (i.e. they're like us hahah)

Deftones are one of those bands where their fans aren't lukewarm.  No one buys a Deftones CD on a whim.  They buy it with a purpose and with devotion. 

Although they've been around as long as Korn and are better than Korn, they are not as big as Korn.  But damn, if you really like music, the Deftones are WAY more RESPECTED than Korn. 

It's rare to find people who talk shit on the Deftones.  And when those people do appear, they're usually uninformed and unfamiliar with the music. 

Anyways, the Deftones have won a Grammy, they have sold platinum records, they have headlined major tours.  But at the end of the day, they're a music-lover's band, not your average pop-junky's band.

i liked the the deftones since  97 and saw them first in Ft. laud in 98.... im no way new to anything.

You have summed that up perfectly. In the UK, most people into alternative music have heard of Deftones, some of them may be able to name a few songs (normally Change and Back to School) but they always sell out on tours. They don't have they're music played on daytime Radio 1 unliken Slipknot and Trivium. They're kinda unpopular popular if you know what I mean.

Mostly everyone that I know has heard of the Deftones. But I cant also bet they haven't actually listened to them. They are a well known band and are well respected from the people that I have run across. Most of my friends enjoy them, though not as much as me. I always thought Deftones as the worlds biggest cult band. Because while they don't have as much fans as your mainstream band nor sell millions and millions of records worldwide, they do have a truly dedicated fan base. Even professional music critics reserve a special spot for the Deftones and they recognize their special sound.

Most people I know usually just pass Deftones off as "another one of those nu-metal/ADIDAS-metal" type of band.  Believe me, I've gotten more than my share of flak for being a Deftones fan around these parts.  Fuck this town even kids who seem like they would be Deftones fans (they like their lame poser bands like POD, Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc...), think that Deftones are "gay" or something.  Shit's fucked up, son.  They're too busy running their pointless little lives to listen to REAL bands like Deftones...*sigh* I guess some people are just soul-less wastes of skin, and like it that way...
